In the market for a replacement jalopy for Mrs Boblo's motah. Thinking of the Seat Leon, the 1.4 petrol 150 hbhp (humongous brake horse power) FR jobbie. We normally buy ex dems and keep for ~5 years. Mileage too low for diesel and all it's mechanical foibles.
Anyone have any real world experience of this specific car please?
Trim is very poor and expect squeaks and rattles. A pillars obstruct your view at junctions depending on how tall you are. Like most VAG cars they are quite dull but reliable if maintained properly.
Both the 1.2 and 1.4 TSi engines are responsive and 'eager'.
Mrs_OAB's Ibiza ST estate is a lovely little car - slightly plastic in places inside, but comfy, practical and 'just works' kind of a way. It would be much better with the newer engine - but we decided that simpler was better at the moment...
The TSI 1.4 engines went through a serious phase of eating themselves. A replacement VAG engine will run into 2k easily, and second hand ones will be rare due to the fragility. Do some research and see if they've fixed it yet.
Aahhh OK. Are the injuns all better now as it'll be under a year old?
The one I know of issues with was the 180PS turbo & supercharged version in the Polo GTI, Fabia VRS, etc. I thought the 150PS and below (turbo only) were fine.
