Right, I picked up a cheap amp (Alpine MRP-F200) and a sub to give a bit more Oomph to my van's audio but struggling with the setup.
The RCA connection goes to the amp from the headunit (Pioneer DEH-4500BT) and I have one set of "normal" speakers connected to Channels 1 and 2 and the Sub bridged between 3 and 4.
From the settings on the headunit I can either get "normal" audio through the speakers or bass through the sub, but not both.
Any caraudiophiles able to offer words of wisdom?
Manuals for both bits of kit are here:
Thanks!
Is there a setting to switch the rca output between sub and stero/rear? Had a quick look at the manual and would guess it may have something to do with the settings on pg13 - sub on off setting or high pass filter? But I'm guessing you'll have messed around with these.
As you're running the speakers and sub through the same amp you need the full range going through the rca, not just high or low pass.
I'm no expert, just a couple of thoughts.
Edit, just saw pg16. I'd assune it would be to do with sp/po mode. Have you tried all those options?
Looks like you can only have one or the other: The rear speaker leads output and the RCA output
of this unit can be used to connect a full-range
speaker OR subwoofer.
So you'd need to run your speakers from the rear output from the head unit or vice versa. Doh!
Thanks for the reply...
that's an arse...I've already got 2 pairs of speakers in the front of the van running off the back of headunit...back to the drawing board!
You could get an in line "choke" to run the sub from a normal channel, its just wired in.
Thanks, any links to a "choke"? My lack of knowledge makes googling the right thing tricky! 🙄
Some DIY car audio hobbyists use choke coils with car audio systems (specifically in the wiring for a subwoofer, to remove high frequencies from the amplified signal).
