I am after a new head unit for the van that is Ipod compatible nothing to flash but it needs to be worth having if you know what i mean.
I am tempted to just wander into halfords and get one thrown in but i have no idea if this is a stupid move.
what say you?
how much do i need to spend?

How much do you want to spend?

Do you want to connect via data cable or just aux?

Front connection or rear?

Do you want to be able to charge the ipod?

Din or double din size?

I am tempted to just wander into halfords and get one thrown in but i have no idea if this is a stupid move.

Yes.

I bought one of these earlier in the year and its very nice bit of kit. Might be overkill depending on your requirements.

For £132 you can get one of these. Then just route a data cable, and a 3.5mm aux cable as well if you want, through to the glove box or something. You can get stereos with front inputs, but I find the cables just get in the way and routing from the back is more discrete.

Din refers to the size of the unit. Single din is like the one linked above. Whereas double din is 2x that, and the size most OEM units are. So if you are changing from a double din to a single din then you will need a appropriate fascia plate for your van.

Just bought a Alpine CDE-123 for about 150 quid. Front and rear USB connections. I've got my 160gb Ipod which stays in the glove box which I can control from the headunit. It's great as it charges it too.

Depending on the model, you might just be able to get RCA cables stuck into the CD changer sockets at the back which will cost peanuts.
