My Hebtroco Canvas Gvnrs have finally died after many years of wearing and more than a couple repairs. Unfortunately they have stopped doing them. If they hadn’t I’d have bought enough spare pairs to see me out, because my body shape has been the same for the last 30 years.
Trying to find a replacement is proving difficult. I’ve got some Levi 511s that are just a tiny bit too skinny, and trying on stuff in M&S made my legs look like golf clubs.
So, what canvas trousers are there out there (don’t want blue jeans) for a regular sized chap of a certain age (34W 32L)?
Have you looked at Community Clothing? Similar sort of ethos to HebTroCo.
I've sold my GVNRs as my body shape changed so much I couldn't fit in them any more 🙁
I've gone to Community clothing: I had a pair of their chinos for years that I put away when I lost weight, now it's gone back on I dug them out again and was reminded of how nice (but simple) they were that I bought another couple of pairs off Vinted.
I see HebTroCo are now doing a new a pair of trews of some description in various fabrics.

Have a look at Vinted/eBay - there's quite a bit of HTCo stuff on there. Might just find a bargain replacement.

Community clothing sizing and styles were not for me. Socks. Pants. And trousers ended up at Oxfam.

Or more to the point - save a search on those sites so you get a notification if anything comes up. If your first choice would be to buy the same trousers again then thats the way to do it.
Its amazing how often the kind of 'will last you a lifetime' type garments come up for sale that have never/hardly been worn
Not 'exactly' canvas - they almost have a bit of a moleskin feel to them, but on that slant, I like Kuhl trousers (can be found in Go Outdoors). I have one of their jackets too, which is canvas

Howie's has completely dropped off my radar - quite surprised to find they're still going though they seem to have lost any decent designers. They used to always have something with a bit of interest to it - it looks like Gap now. Trousers and jeans are keenly priced but their longest leg is now 33". I need 35/36 but normally long is 34.

I can imagine the wearer’s other favourite colour would be salmon pink, both worn with check shirts, sold at an emporium for the country gentleman, who wouldn’t actually be doing the laundry…🤭

If you can't take a pee without getting a few drops down your leg maybe go for a darker colour, it's what I do 😀

Interested in the fit. Which ones did you go for? How "true" is the waist? Are they tight on the quads (a common challenge for cyclists/runners)?

Impressed that an inch too long requires surgical intervention. You must be absolutely bob-on with sartorial matters, getting them to break at exactly the right point on your welted shoe 😉

I know the HtS is sorted, but for anyone else, the Vulpine gravel trousers on sportpursuit are decent. Nice, middle-ground fit, tiny bit of stretch and work on the bike if you need them to.
I had a pair of canvas Carhartt trousers. They were shite. Despite the knees being doubled up they write through. Then the fabric below the waist gave up.

My blue ones were waiting for me when I got back from holiday. Yeah, nice fit but definitely a bit note relaxed than 511's. That's OK though as there's no stretch. Bargain at 35 quid!
