Heatproof clothing repair patches

Not a cycling related question but there's usually someone here with the relevant knowledge...

I have a pair of over-boot trail riding trousers with what I assumed were heat-proof patches on the lower leg. An unscheduled dismount which resulted in the hot exhaust resting on my leg showed my assumption to be erroneous... I'm now looking for a repair patch that is actually heat-proof to facilitate a repair. Can anyone help by pointing me in the right direction?

Ask for a sample piece from one of the many sellers of fabric off the roll?

Like this place; a full metre isn't that expensive http://shop.vitcas.com/products/high-temperature-textiles/high-temperature-fabrics.html

Have you considered asking someone like BKS to put a leather patch there ?

I do miss my trail riding - one of the things I didn't know i was giving up when i moved to Scotland 20+ yrs ago

They're £70 Wulfsport trousers, too good to bin but too cheap to spend much on a repair.

Then patch some leather in yourself ? Assuming you have access to a sail-making palm and appropriate needles/thread (might just be my house that has this sort of stuff....)

It's on the inside of the calf (and I still have a scar from my WR400 exhaust) so doesn't need to be a work of art

Looking through the list of fabrics on that Vitcas website, I’m rather surprised they don’t do Nomex - it’s what firefighters clothing is made of, and I’ve got several American pilots jackets that are made from it, although on the inner label it’s just referred to as aramid fibre; I guess it’s just avoiding using trade names.

If you cut some leather patches the right size a cobbler will likely sew them on for you relatively cheaply. It's a quick job if you have a suitable heavy duty sewing machine.
