Where does a potential paddler go to buy a good quality second hand or ex hire canoe? Usual places like Gumtree, eBay, Song of the Paddle has very little on offer. Is there a STW equivalent for this?

Alternatively, anyone on here looking to free up some space and selling?

Song of the paddle is the equivalent to STW. Problem is that with the demise of royalex production there aren't many good second hand boats available. Patience required and keep checking all above sites.
UKRGB is another possible place to check but more kayak orientated.

It probably doesn't have much more than SOTP, but UKRGB is also worth keeping an eye on:

I bought one on gummy, mybe now being the start of summer noones selling, nyway, had it for a few years and resold on gummy for more. Loved it, cant remember the brand but sat 3 and paddled nicely. Got told off a few times for paddling up apparently private creeks, i never knew there was such a thing.

Depends on where you are - I'm in Scotland so my answer leans to up here answers but I'm sure they can be translated to wherever you are.
Tiso - outdoor store that does canoe and kayak hire (and bike), occasionally disposes of ex-hire equipment, not advertised as far as I know so you need to be in touch with the shops (Glasgow and Perth for the big ones)
Glenmore Lodge - outdoor centre up near Aviemore. sell off ex-training kit from time to time.
PaddleFest - kayaking / canoeing show held in Perth, usually some ex-demo / ex-hire boats for sale.
Like I say, these may not be convenient for you, but I'm sure can be translated into something similar closer to you.

Not sure if its Canadian (has seats, not kneeling? I'm hazy on a difference) but I have one on my drive you'd be welcome to look at (NW Hampshire) - inherited from a neighbour when they moved but way too heavy for the boy and I .. we'd like to get a touring kayak to put in the space its taking. Mail me if interested.

Canoe = kneel (even if supported by seat), one ended paddle.
Kayak = sit on bum, legs in front, double ended paddle.

HTH

As LD said, shortage of boats means they are hard to find and prices are daft in some ways. SoTP, UKRGB, Kayaks/Canoes for sale on Facebook and Gumtree all seem best.

I also think there is a lot of snobbery about boats - I would love a Royalex boat, however the cost and lack of options when looking just wouldn't allow. I have two Novacraft Prospectors in SP3. The only downside is weight really.

Anyway, over to the pics. It is addictive... Can you spot LD?

I'm in Scotland

Call OB Loch Eil - I am fairly sure they have some still...

I would also call Glenmore direct and ask - often they have one or staff have kicking around, or they can give you dates for the sell off of fleet.

Got a whopping great orange Coleman that we don't use. 3 seats but no idea how long. Hadn't actually thought about selling it but then we haven't actually thought about it at all of late. Forest of Dean and I damn well wouldn't post it. Guessing on about a couple of hundred quid. Better ask the wife I suppose first in case she wants it. email in profile

This is 'sit on bum but like on a seat'.. I know what a kayak is, and I know this is a canoe, but I don't know if there is something specific about 'canadian' canoes.

No paddles so no help there 😀

I damn well wouldn't post it

Enough stamps I might, but I doubt it'd even fit in the 'oversized' cubby.
Probably be easiest if someone downstream wanted it and I just released it into the wild like Father Jack...

Outward bound are a good bet for2nd hand. I would get royalex if you can, polyethylene are bombproof but absolute hell on a portage. There are new plastics coming out but it's a big investment and I'd rather have something well tried.

Canadian Canoe = Canoe or Open Canoe.
It is just different turn of phrase.
Nothing 'special', other than canoes are just ace. 8)

Calling it a Canadian canoe is like calling hockey 'ice hockey'. There is only one of each to speak of.

Now I'm confused.
Shouldn't that have read Air Paragliding, or Water Swimming, or something that didn't have 2 types?

Didn't someone on here make a really nice one not so long ago? Seem to remember being amazed at how well it had turned out.
