Rubbish. An mp3 encoded from a .flac source, for example using lame -V0, is indistinguishable from one encoded from CDDA.

Nice one 🙄 Flac is lossless and three times the size of an MP3 file. How can you convert FLAC to MP3 with no degridation?

*Edit* Rocketdog what are you after?

Download DBpoweramp, it lets you convert loads of different type, I'm not sure if they give you the lame mp3 codec as there are certain laws to do with it, google should kick up the codec file to use though - if you can't manage to find the lame codec then I find the helix codec is fine

@ Lanesra:

You said:

So i then said:

I never said you could encode to .mp3 with no degradation. I was disagreeing with the statement you made about re-downloading the album as an mp3 rather than just encoding from the .flac.

Read the original post you tool. Just because your names in green, it doesn't make you an expert in everything

*sigh*

I can see this going round in circles, but here is a final attempt at this.

1) RD ask whether you can convert flac to mp3 and if so how.
2) I suggest using Foobar.
3) You say you wouldn't bother converting from flac to mp3 as it degrades (note: i am with you upto this point). But you then say just download as mp3 instead.
4) I say you suggesting to download the file as mp3 rather than convert a flac to mp3 because of degradation is rubbish. Because it is.
5) etc etc.

As for the name in green thing? Whut?

Maybe lanesra doesn't realise flac is lossless? (ie. the extracted audio stream is bit-for-bit the same as what came from the cd)

He would have a valid point if he was talking about transcoding from lossy->lossy (AAC to MP3 for example)

To the OP: you can use foobar or lamedrop (very simple to use)

I'm not the one who thinks cd -> mp3 is different to flac -> mp3! 😉
