I want to check if an item I've bought has been bid up on eBay. Can I do this on an iPhone or do I need a computer to access the full eBay website.

Thanks

either way I didn't think it was possible to check for shill bidding, after ebay introduced the feature to hide other bidder names? That said, just open the full site on your mobile, you sometime have to fight to get the full not mobile site but it is possible (I hate mobile sites and dumbed down apps)

How would you know of it was just a mate of the seller? What are you going to do if you somehow find it was bid up, you still got it fo a price you were happy with, no?

eBays automatic bidding looks a lot like shill bidding  if your mindset is stuck in the 90’s

Exactly.  Bid what you are happy to pay, win and pay.  What is the issue.

Ebay monitor for shill bidding, multiple accounts with the same IP address. etc.

However, if someone has just asked there mate to stick a bid in, in the hope that someone keep chasing the item, not sure how you would know and what you could do anyway?

As others have said, you bid what you thought the item was worth, so I would pay and get on with it.

As for the prices things go for on Ebay, they often make no sense.

I have sold s/h bike components on there that were more expensive than Ribble/Merlin/CRC. Road stuff more than MTB seemed to attract daft bidding.

IIRC Before ebay blocked the other bidder's ID, you could see patterns in previous sales

Well if you are looking for a certain item and they come up at a specific price point you often see the same people bidding. Especially if it is electronics for repair.

Not too fussed, it just says the second highest bidder has 100% activity with this seller. Does that mean they only bid on items sold by the seller, or am I confused?

Could be that it’s the first thing they’ve ever bid on?

A friend once asked another friend of mine to put in a bid on a listing he was selling, wanted to bump it up to around £10. The 2nd friend was high at the time and accidentally put in £1000.

Nice little story for you there.

which is a great story, until you realise ebay only bids you to just above the next highest bidder, so unless he had two high mates who started bidding against each other....

Katie spotted a Starsky & Hutch board game on there that she and her twin had when they were kids.  Mentioned it to her sister and then decided to buy it as a present.  Her sister started bidding and doubled the price....

Ah, this was well over 10 years ago now. Back in the days where you could just put in a figure.

Ebay actively promotes shill-bidding these days by hiding the identity of bidders. Why wouldn't they? The higher the selling price, the more they make from it.
