....or do Polar just throw it away and send you a new one?
(I once changed the battery in my iPod - a horrible job, which I would never advise anyone to try)

No, you can't.
You can get an exchange one from Polar; or you can look on eBay for the posher one, where you can change the battery. It's a better bet in the long run.

Scott's right, they do seem to go on for ages but when they're done that's it. The other models are just a twist with a coin and bung a 2032 in.

I saw a vid on the tube about how to change the battery. It looked crap and involved lots of silicone. I wouldn't bother and just send it ncak to Polar for a trade in/up.
