I like winter, plus I managed to miss autumn this year being in the southern hemisphere, and had two springs instead. ๐Ÿ˜•

How about we all celebrate that summer is on its way. I'm busy today, so shall we say Sunday?
I reckon a big old pig out and a few drinks should do the trick. Let me know if you're in.

Shirley, it's the shortest/longest daylight. The day(date) is the same length is it not?

Super mild here already. Last day of work and not back until the New Year. Loads of riding planned.

The shortest day?

Is it less than the usual 24 hours then?

soltice is 5.30 am on the 22nd

gary - suprisingly the day length varies around the year but shortest daylight day is longest solar day or something confusing that makes my head hurt

I've been trying to organise a Winter Solstice ride but sadly my mates are all a bunch of lazy slackers who seem to think that a 5am ride is unreasonable ๐Ÿ˜‰

So looks like I'll be out on my own...

And it's been getting lighter longer in the evening for a day or two already. I always find this the hardest bit of the year so really good to get it over with.

Yay, summer will indeed be coming. Only slightly disappointed because I thought the solstice was today.

I'm always amazed at how quickly the days change:

On 1st Jan sunset will be at 15:55 but by the end of Jan sunset will be 16:45 - 50 minutes later!

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/astronomy.html?n=303&month=1&year=2012&obj=sun&afl=-11&day=1

It's nearly summer!

What? Shortest day = beginning of winter proper. How is that better?

Personally I find Nov/Dec (esp Nov) the very worst months of the year but each to their own eh?

The mornings keep getting darker for ages though, that's the bit I don't like...

Its my birthday today! On the shortest day. I used to get upset when I was little because people would say it was the shortest day and I thought that i was being cheated out of birthday time. Pleased to say that I now realise that I get the same amount of hrs as everyone else in the world ๐Ÿ™‚

+1. I don't mind November and December, weathers not to bad and this year im a month out, having been away for all of October so it doesn't feel like December to me. January and Feb on the other hand are generally dark, wet, and pass slowly.

Happy birthday Emma!

To me they are the best months of the year. I probably spend more hours out in whatever weather we get, whereas a shower in summer is enough for me to come in.

Hint: get a fatbike.

I always find early January mornings the hardest because that's when the sun rises latest. This autumn didn't depress me any near as much as normal because the weather was so good. October 2nd, my birthday was fantastic, a proper beach day with swimming and sunbathing. This is the first year that's happened.
