I have a wedding to attend next year in the Normandy region of France. Looking at turning it into a camping holiday with the nipper. Any done any camping in Normandy.?
It's a big place with changeable weather. Which part of normandy would you like to camp in?
Any really, have car can travel. Never been there so are some parts better than others.?
Depends what you're after really. L'orne is a big national park, very pretty, quiet, and in my mind perfect Normandy. Great cycling, hiking even a bit of climbing (maybe kayaking too, though I'm not sure where). Bagnoles is a nice spa town, quite pretty for a day/ evening but pricey. There's loads of pretty towns and villages that don't seem to have changed much sine the 1700's (Domfront is nice too!).
Out to the coast there is the landing beaches to the North, with the excellent memorial museum in Caen.. Bayeux is a pretty place but touristy. Personally, If you're out that way I'd recommend a stroll round bayeux then up to the cliffs at "le chaos" at Longes sur mer. this is a number of intact gun emplacements up on the cliffs, beautiful at sunset and quite atmospheric!
Away from the D-day sites, the west coast (known as manche) has some nice seaside towns including Granville, which is a nice seaside resort town, with a medieval sector and prices to match! The weather here is generslly better and the beaches are ok (though further down the south west coast is better).
Camping wise I can't recommend anything particuarly as we have family in Normandy so tend to stay there! French campsites on the whole are quite high standard, usually with a bar and restaurant on site, often with a pool as well. Think more hi de hi, than empty field in northuberland (or perhaps in france it wold be hor he hor?)
Normandy is all a bit naff unless you like big cathedrals imo ๐
Campsites though - as above. Extremely easy to do, you will pretty much always get a place in the municipale in any town - some are a bit bleak but some are quite nice. But even so there are loads of nice ones. Camping is very popular in France, they make it very easy and you'll be very welcome.
Camped here last summer;

lovely place. Only slight hesitation is that they'res a relatively small number of loos for the size of the place - never had to queue but if you're someone who likes a quiet contemplate whilst going it may not be for you.
few pics - it was at it's busiest when we were there in August so this shows roughly how much space there is.
