MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
Me and the little lady are putting together the list of stuff we need for The Big Trip and we're having a heated debate over whether or not we should take some levelling ramps. I say yes, she says no.
What does the STW hive mind think, are they worth having or not?
Yes (but haven't got any and Mrs J is a real pain the arris when it comes to finding a level spot)
I'd say yes - particularly if you have a fridge - a lot don't work unless they're level.
and if you're going on a long trip you probably won't always have a level place to park up.
We've just spent 10 weeks campervanning round Australia. We didn't have or need levelling ramps. The one thing we missed was storage space so anything not needed should stay at home.
Why would you say no?
Do you like sleeping on a slope?
if you like sleeping on a slope, leave em at home. take them and don't tell her.
Why would you say no?
because

Yes.
Mrs M and I argued about it for a while, she thought they were unnecessary whereas I wanted them.
Two things changed her mind: a night where the slope of the bed meant that I rolled into her all night long, and when a boiling pan vibrated itself almost off the hob.
Get some.
My memories of Australia (camping, not vanning) were that it tended to have flatter campsites, in fact, flatter in general.
park so the bed is sideways to the slope and let her sleep on the lowest side, you'll might even manage to get her to pay for your ramps the next morning!
def yes Im afraid.
Im very sensitive to any tilt unless it's slightly head up. And if you sleep in a silk liner like I do you slide to the bottom of the sack if the tils it too great 🙂
If you're short of space, you're carrying too much uneccesary stuff! 🙂
ramps are necessary.
Maybe Aus has a bit more space but we never struggled to find anywhere fairly flat and even on uneven ground it wasn't too tricky to get the van in a good position. We had a tiny two person van, if it was a massive motorhome I'd probably say yes.
If you're short of space, you're carrying too much stuff
In the outback one thing we needed was 'stuff'. We had water bottles rammed into every available space and still nearly ran out. I suppose a weekend in Devon might be easier 🙂
IHN, Where's the 'The Big Trip', make us jealous
The Big Trip is Europe, starting at Easter, back for Christmas 🙂
So, assuming we do end up deciding to get some, what do folks recomend? The Fiamma ones seem to be all over eBay
they're all much of a muchness.
these guys are local to me and good

And we had every nook and cranny stuffed with wine bottles in france. 😉
But then we have a 60-litre water tank in the camper van.
We also travel very light. 20L of clothes each and one plastic box for ride kit or toys.
You're having a heated debate about this, before you get in a tin can with her for months? Take the ramps, leave the wife. 🙂
