I'm after a new handset with all of the following:

1) Fully featured BBC iPlayer (ability to download programmes for timshifting).
2) Great quality sound with 3.5mm jack.
3) Expandable microSD memory.
4) Easily swapped battery
5) Standalone GPS with compatibile with Sportstracker, Viewranger, and marine charting software.
6) Decent sized amoled display with touchscreen.
7) Supported by a decent range of apps.
8 ) Thin and lightweight.
9) Fast web browser.
10) Pinch zoom.
11) Micro USB charging.

As far as I can tell, no such device exists, unless someone out there knows better.

Your very first point may be the showstopper. You can download from iPlayer on a PC and transfer the file to portable devices, but I've not seen a mobile version of iPlayer that works on anything other than streaming (could be wrong though).

Other than that, I think the Desire S ticks all the other boxes.

Works brilliantly on my ageing Nokia 5800, but thanks for your input.

Sideloading is a pain and what makes the 5800 so useful to me is it's ability to download a programme while i'm getting ready for work. Then I can watch the content on the train. A one hour show takes about 2-3 mins to download and then you are set. This feature really takes the monotony our of commuting and I really wouldn't want to be without it.

Have done a bit of digging around and found these are the only fully supported handsets. Not a very comprehensive list and no Android handsets 😐

Nokia 5800, E71, N86, N96, N97
Samsung Wave (S8500), Monte (S5620), Genio (B5310), Pixon (M8800), Omnia II (i8000)
Sony Ericsson W995, Satio (U1i)

Come on BBC, get your finger out and include some more recent handsets!
