I'm starting a small part-time business doing general property and garden maintenance, nothing massive: lawn mowing, hedge trimming, gutter cleaning, flat-pack building, minor plumbing and electrical, painting, etc.
I've got one proper qualification, level 3 C&G electrical installation, with some "awareness" training (asbestos, legionella, etc) and 40 years general DIY experience
What insurance do I need?
What insurance should I consider?
TIA

Just get the Merecats to compare the cheapest with the options you need, or go through TopCashback/Quidco. My kitchen and bathroom installation insurance with limited amounts of hot works and 2m of 3rd party cover is only £100ish anually.

Public Liability. £1million cover can be had for around £120.

None, assuming it's just you working (i.e., no employees).

What insurance should I consider?

As above, Public Liability. £1m too low these days but it's at least something. That cover normally includes Products Liability for stuff you supply.
Tool cover might be useful? Depends what you have and where you keep it.
Personal Accident in case you lop your arm/head off?
This sort of stuff can readily be purchased in a "package" cover, usually called something like "Tradesman".
There's loads more you could buy, but depends on what you want to spend and what you think your needs are.

Thanks all, does it make a difference whether I have a pile of qualifications or not? I mow the lawn weekly, and I can make a flat-pack resemble the illustration without a pile of parts left over, is that enough?

Should be but don't be surprised by the idiocy of the insurance industry scam artists to insist upon a piece of paper showing you can wield a screwdriver and small Allen key without being a danger to others. I would ask a broker for help and ask lots of questions once you get the first quotation in and have read it through.

Its all Tax deductible so no need to skimp to much.
I had 2 million for about £13 a month. Never used it so no idea if it was any good!!

Sandwicheater on here is an insurance broker (Coversure) who has proved fantastic at covering our rather unique business needs.
Can heartily recommend his services.

For your first year trading I'd probably go through a broker, or try a company direct, and see what options there are. Direct Line? NFU? Premierline? Local broker?
For 120-200 quid premium you're not going to get a huge amount of assistance. So maybe have a look at moneysupermeerkat as well.
See if your clients will require you to have cover (usually just councils but you never know).
Qualification requirements may vary - that's why I'd try a couple of different companies.

I've got public liability, tools and personal injury as a cabinetmaker/joiner.

A colleague swears by the NFU who cover him for all of that. I searched around but can't recall offhand who I'm with.
