I had a nice Casstrom bush knife, which I used for all sorts of cutting stuff,in the garden, kindling, whittling logs, just messing about. Never for skinning an elk!!
God darn, I've gone and lost it, I don't know where, we've recently moved house and it could be anywhere!
I've looked for another Casstrom and they're just not available.
As an alternative I rather like the Fallkniven F1 Pro. Its not cheap but looks good.
Does anyone have any experience of these knives or can suggest a similar (available) alternative?

I've got a TBS Boar. It's very nice.

I like Helle knives for their natural look and finish / good quality steel.

Speak to Ben;

Fantastic craftsmanship, I have a handful of his blades and each one makes me happy when I use it. I should add Lois’s leatherwork is brilliant too.

Last year I commissioned a custom pair (woodlander 4.5 and craftsman) in RWL34 steel. They are amazing and worth every penny. (They are not cheap!)

Merek of this parish? I think it’s him, anyway, sure he’s posted up photos of some really beautiful knives, don’t know about commissioning one though.
Not cheap, but this might be worth a look:

This is rather tasty, too, and not stupidly pricey. The linen micarta scales are a nice touch, tough as hell, and very grippy.

Another nice scandi grind with a micarta handle

And there’s always the classic Puukko

Here’s an actual Finnish-made knife:

This one?

Or this?

Cheap and cheerful, with decent carbon steel

Another Finnish knife:

This looks a bit like the Casstrom

Right, it’s late and I’m off to bed, plenty to mull over in that lot.
‘Night 😁

Have a look at www.brechfa-knives.co.uk his bushcraft knife should do the job. I've got my eye on one of the butcher/bbq knives he makes.

I love my Casstrom Woodsman. Have they gone completely, or just not imported? (work browser prevents knife browsing!)

The other knives I looked at were the TBS Boar mentioned, and the Helle (which are in Go Outdoors). The Casstrom just fit my hand the best, bought from Tamarack Outdoors who's advice is invaluable.

I also have an Enzo Knecker little knife, the quality is good so their bigger stuff would be worth a look.

I like Mora knives. £8 - £12 for a carbon blade you can shave with and is really easy to sharpen. Or about £20 for a carbon stainless laminate (although they are specialist wood carving knives).

The sheaths are a bit shit though.

Thanks for all the info guys. The Caasstrom knifes are on websites but virtually no one has any stock. I think I’ll ditch the Fallkniven idea, there are plenty of good alternatives as available, and I’m actually going to Tamarack tomorrow to pick up a Solo stove, so I’ll chat with them.

Thank you for the advice. Particularly Palmer 77. I contacted Toby Platts on Friday and had this fantastic Voyager knife delivered today. Am very content.

I miss working where I could get rwl34 heat treated for the cost of a bottle of coke.

I’m really pleased, I’ve had my knife from Toby for about 5 years and got the edge re profiled last year after I made a mess of sharpening it. A very high quality product at a reasonable price 🙂

I recommend the Morakniv Companion
I have the green one although if I were to buy again it'd be a lairy colour as they're too easy to mislay otherwise.
