water pump shaft snapped yesterday on my ford focus 1.8tddi
managed to get it back to where i'm staying and want to quickly order a replacement .Obviously they'll be stocked over here at main dealers but want to avoid getting ripped off so
1/ would it be OK to get a pattern non oem replacement and if so which manufacturers are recommended?
2/ If you were ordering online and were in france and needed the part pronto ..any suggestions on which sites to peruse?
I looked at a site yesterday and there were so many options it fried my brain

Just note if you're picking up parts from a dealer to factor in their two hour lunch breaks where the entire service / parts department will shut down.

Good luck. August holidays too so hopefully you'l find somewhere open. My email is in my profile, if you wish you can contact me and my French wife can possibly help with speaking to the garages.

Have a look on Mister-auto, they were originally europe based.

Eurocarparts do dhl 2day to France for £4:95.
Order every type that could possibly fit your engine and return the unused ones once back home?

Don't forget the discount code which is currently 36%off

I'd look for an 'Airtex' brand one, if not OE.

Quick way would be to get somebody in the UK to drop into a local factors and send it out to you. I'd offer, but I'm miles away from a branch of GSF,Pages etc.

Just make sure it comes from their 'premium' range and not a pile of economy junk.

thanks to all so far ..just trying to organise. Wife is french but has no tech knowledge whatsoever so explaining is complicated. Not the end of the world just another one of life's challenges to overcome . Found a vid on youtube and doesn't look too complex but lack of tools / place to attempt means difficult . I'm so reluctant to place in hands of main stealers ..probably worse out here now as an Englishman abroad especially with Brexit looming. Oh well ..need to adopt optimism!

Playing the Brexit card will probably mean they feel sorry for you, works for us in Spain.

Valeo
Ruville
Airtex
Febi

I'd fit any of those.

Surely your breakdown cover will get it sorted?
You've got breakdown cover, right? You wouldn't drive anywhere, let alone abroad without it, right?

You wouldn't drive anywhere

Really ? I get the Europe part but to not drive "anywhere" without breakdown cover

Yeah really.
I've got AA cover, I've had it many years. Very handy.
Puncture on a motorbike? No probs
Broken clutch cable? No probs.
Taken out by uninsured driver? No probs.
And more...

I commute to work along the M3 every day. One breakdown there and it pays for itself. I assume you know how much they charge to drag you off a British motorway if you're not covered...?

So, yes, everywhere I drive I've got breakdown cover. To be honest I think it should be mandatory for motorway driving.

Hi Barney ..thanks for the offer . Over in NE france so a long way from your folks . Probably gonna have to reluctantly hand over to French main stealer as so much hassle otherwise and no help from breakdown after services unless you let them take over ..just not my style but when needs must 👿

Peter I was an AA member for 21 years and didn't call them out once. Been driving to Europe for 30 years never had cover or had any reason to make a call. If I do now I will still have saved money vs years of "insurance"

OP glad you are getting sorted
