Honestly... 'Beast from the East' in WW3 bold type?!? How about 'February Cold Snap' or 'Colder Weather Than Usual to Last a Few Days'?

Jeez, do the tabloids ever exercise an influence over the way things are seen here.

How on earth did the preponderance of such idiocy come to take hold here? Not that it doesn't exist anywhere else, but in all the countries I've lived or visited, I've never seen anything like it.

There are plenty of issues with our media, but I don't think amusing headlines is one of them.

My favourite is the headline The Times apparently used when Michael Foot chaired a nuclear disarmament committee: Foot Heads Arms Body.

It's a Great British Tradition like pantomime, gardening or (topically) moaning about the weather, and it's one I'm proud to have practiced for a living.

I'll charitably assume you're from overseas rather than entirely lacking a sense of fun.
