[#11689717]

we have relatives there and normally send some parcels every Christmas (well the wife does it in about October as her inner Hyacinth Bucket is strong). Obviously this year went without a hitch, (my Hermes would you believe) will we be able to do it this coming October?

Will there be extra things to pay? Paperwork?

It's January FFS, hasn't your wife got other things to worry about - Easter maybe?

Does anyone know if there are any customs/tax charges for sending parcels to Ireland?
If so can you explain it to me as my googling has lead to nothing.

Of course there are forms to fill out. Your sending stuff across a customs border. If you don’t need to send now, don’t, let the system collapse and see what happens.

could try this to see how you recipient gets hit?

As a regular sender of stuff to NI and to a lesser extent ROI I can just advise that things are as clear as mud since 1st Jan.

So far - courier prices are in some cases just random and sometimes mental and some random additional questions. What used to cost £7 (small parcel) is now approx £30 with the same courier - sometimes with additional q's re contents and codes - sometimes not!

Royal mail are still the same price as far as I can tell - and no questions / codes but in reality nothing we have sent in 2021 has turned up yet so cant comment on actual delivery.

Lots of changes rolling out through the first six months… ignore how things are right now, and ask again once the July changes have bedded in. October is a good time to be thinking about it, should be very clear by then.

Out first parcel to Carlow for Son2 at uni has failed to be delivered by the previously excellent DPD. Still chasing the customs forms today, nearly two weeks later. Its a faecal manifest. Good luck.
