Told my new boss about two months ago that due to circumstances i was having to move and that i might need the odd hour off to do viewings.

Went to him today and said i had a viewing on wednesday morning and that i would be an hour or so late. He starts complaining that i should have given more notice. and would have to book half days holiday. Obviously forgetting the minor detail that i average 1hr unpaid per day. That sometimes you can't give specific notice etc.

In the last place they were fairly relaxed and as long as i didn't take the piss and did my work everyone was happy. My question is what is normal? Is my new boss an arse or is this normal and the last place overly lax?

obviously depends on your job, but he sounds like a ****t, unless you're an air traffic controller or brain surgeon etc....

Why are you working 1hr each day unpaid? Surly fairness works both ways?

why an hour each day, new in the job trying to create a good impression etc and i find it easier to get in a little early lighter traffic so end up doing a bit extra everyday. What is pissing me off is that i am happy to give a little but the moment i ask a favour in return i get winging.

Sooner i get a new job and get out the better, almost to the point of walking out TBH.

Whilst I agree that I would also expect a bit of 'give and take', I'd wonder why somebody couldn't look at a house in an evening or weekend as that's when I've always arranged house viewings - perhaps there is some reason this is not possible and he needs telling why ?

Can you not arrange your viewing at little bit earlier and then just arrive at work "on time". If you don't like the job I would recommend not turning up too early from now onwards, see what they think of that (its not like that's doing anything wrong!)

HAve you told HIM this? That would have been the first thing I'd have said, and if he still whinged, I'd have told him I'd be stopping doing it as from that day. Simples.

So it's your decision to work the extra because it suits you - rather than pressure to do so?

uplink, if i didn't go in early i would have a backlog, so whilst it does suit me to go in early those around me stay late instead. Not particularly happy, i don't mind doing a bit to get the job done, but i am getting the impression it is how the business works and not just a case of there being a bit extra work at the moment.

Irrelevant now as house went this evening. ho hum, keep on looking,

Boss is a twunt unless there's some remarkable factor you haven't mentioned.

Sorry, but I must admit that I have been reading a lot of Mumsnet recently (it is quite fun stuff!) and I would say:

YBIBU

which translates to:

Your Boss Is Being Unreasonable
