Due to the cutlery drawer ,if you have the top drawer low enough for pint glasses there’s not enough room for big plates on the bottom.

However if you stack with the plates the “wrong “ way round  there’s room for everything.

If you buy the taller version* there's room for proper stacking and pint glasses up top.

* Still fits under normal cabinet heights.

Or just put the pint glasses on the bottom?

Life changing!

Been getting mildly annoyed with our Bosch for years for that very reason.

What are the spinny arm things called BTW? We refer to them as "Twaslers".

Pint glasses? I use big Weihenstephan glasses which go in the bottom rack.

Our Bosch has an adjustable height top rack and pint glasses still fit when it’s at the higher setting.

You know you can run the top drawer at an angle, so one side clears the plates while the other has space for pint glasses?

Your top tray looks very low.

We can get pint glasses up top and big plates down below in our Bosch dishwasher.

But we don't have a stupid cutlery drawer - just the old fashioned basket where you dump everything in. Cutlery drawers need going in the bin - who's got time to line up their cutlery!!

Doesn't roll off the tongue the same as Twazzlers, bit I recognise the problem.

The last couple of washers we've had, the Twazzlers are a glued together unit. An earlier one had clips that let the two shells separate to empty all the bits of rice and other detritus. Next time we buy one, (and the current version is a piece of crap Logik, so it may not be long) I'm definitely looking for that feature.

(Can't believe I actually photographed this)

Add me to the list of people who's Bosch can fit in pint glasses and large plates without any jiggery-pokery.

Also, because poncey ****er, top drawer level is defined by height to take Riedel Bordeaux glasses not pint glasses 😉

That's what we do

I had no idea that the altitude of the top drawer was adjustable. Ours is exactly right for the glasses that we load on to it, and if we went any lower it would compromise the spinny action of the Twazzlers™.

But this is not going to stop me messing with it.

I think that’s the first loaded dishwasher that I haven’t wanted to reorder 😁

However I think your upside down plates might technically be correct, as I think it washes best with dirty side in contact with the water spraying from below. I do this for plastic chopping boards but not thought about plates.

I’ll have to try the angle thing as it might be an end to the annoying pool of grimy water that settles in the concave base of the upturned mugs…

We have the same plates as you (Sophie Conran for Portmeirion, if I'm not mistaken) and if you weren't such a peasant and had a Miele dishwasher like what we do, they'd fit fine

I feel my handy hint might have been trumped by the angling the top shelf tip.

Agreed. I just marched my entire family into the kitchen to show them* because we previously had a Smeg which had a door that wouldn’t shut unless you had the top rack absolutely level.

*well I tried - they just ignored me

Tbf our Miele isn't quite perfect - fancy plates need the middle rack lifting to its higher setting, so Reidel glasses then need the cutlery drawer sliding over a little.

I used a friend's bog standard KitchenAid last summer and it was pony (like Bosch without the pretence of German quality) BUT it had a non-directional, non-fancy bottom rack - just a grid of vertical little spikes, rather than angled ones or little W ones - which worked way better than anything I've found in Miele, Bosch etc

Yep and the bowls should be up the top.

Basically youve biffed your dishwasher stacking.

When we had our dishwasher fitted (did I mention that it was a Miele?) and the fella was showing us how to use it, he opened the cutlery drawer at the top and said "it's best if you organise your cutlery, so keep all your knives, forks etc together, then it's much quicker to put away"

MrsIHN literally rolled her eyes and said "christ, you two should get a room"

Not a chance.

Dishwashing by hand is reserved for wood and rusty things and camping. There must be a fight over who does it and leaving it all on the draining baord to drip dry is not "doing the dishes"

Everything else goes in the dishwasher.

Hand washing is for the poor and perverts

Let's establish some rules here:

Plates - Lower back left

Cutlery (in order) - Lower back right

Pans - Lower front

Bowls and cups - Upper left

Glasses - Upper right

Discuss*

@joshvegas sounds like there are plenty of arguments with a dishwasher as well!

Wash up 730 , sit down , relax , read a book , watch some telly , next morning make a cup of tea , while the kettle is boiling put it away job done 👍

Pans! Nope - never in the dishwasher, take up far too much room.

Oh for Heavens sake, etc

Cutlery - top small cutlery drawer RHS, placed together, with all flatware facing the same way. Large knives on the LHS, with their blades in between those of the smaller knives. Never put the forks facing one way and the spoons facing the other (deviant behaviour).

Cups and glasses - middle drawer RHS

Cereal bowls - middle drawer LHS

Plates - bottom front left

Pans - bottom drawer back

Baking sheets - bottom drawer upright along the back

Pasta bowls - bottom front right

Eggs - to wash the poo off, anywhere they'll fit

Manky sink brushes - see above

YMMV, but you'd be wrong 😉

I have LSA Borough bar glasses that hold 625ml. Lower in height than normal pint glasses but hold more beer! Win, win, and a win for dishwasher stacking!!!

I only have a cheap shit Beko dischwasher though from one of those places that gets stuff from other places and sells them on from a local industrial estate....

Also intrigued.

I would have thought that the temperature would just hard boil them. Is a very subtle hoax?

We binned the cutlery drawers for both our dishwashers and just use baskets. So much easier.

Yes, you read that correctly. Two dishwashers.

That's how the poo got on them in the first place.

Had our dishwasher for nearly 8 years. Only today did I learn that the top shelf can be moved lower.  Only a couple of months ago did I learn that the plate racks in the bottom can be folded down.  The joys of Singletrackworld.
