Just heard laura kuenssberg being interviewed on The World at One about this evening's Panorama.
Seems like a concerted attempt to seriously damage johnson - by being honest and truthful.
That's a must watch.
I wonder which tory idiot will be offered up to defend the indefensible on newsnight; yesterday we had bone and swayne - both repellent.

I think that as far as the "Tory Devoteds" are concerned, the exact opposite is going to happen. They will see a group of people who were more than happy to party/booze the evenings away whilst people were dying and who are only now - out of spite - 'fessing up. It's a stretch to call them "honest and truthful" when they've been lying/keeping quiet for the last 2 years. No better than Dome-Head-Dom who did exactly the same thing after helping to see the UK down the river for the Tory paymasters.

This actually could be the tipping point.

You see, people say this and then it isn't. It's like Trump all over again - just when you think the giant oafish bore has said or done something truly heinous, everything moves on and the tipping point becomes ever further down the road. Trump himself once said that he reckoned he could shoot someone dead on Fifth Avenue and people would just assume he was Making America Great Again by taking out a terrorist / immigrant / black person.

BJ is the same - he's a shallow narcissistic cheating liar who should have resigned years ago over the lies, the spin and the bullshit yet the tipping point is just shifted each time, dragging everyone further down the same road.

Years ago, there was an interesting discussion about Lance Armstrong - said he had basically 2 ways he could go after the famous Festina case - he could go absolutely clean as a whistle, clear out doping, be a true ambassador for the sport or he could double down on it. He went the double down approach, dragging everyone - journos, other riders, the entire sport deeper and deeper into a quagmire of lies, denials and litigation.

This - with BJ now - feels like we're about half way down the Lance timeline. He's still winning, still claiming he's a winner, he's world-beating and so on. The reality is that he's basically dragged the entire Tory Party down into one giant corrupt sleazy cesspit of scandal.

As with Lance and the legal cases he won, with every bit of whitewash (like the Met Police fines), BJ becomes ever more cocky and arrogant, it's "everyone else" who is wrong and at fault...

Not according to my true blue mother this morning it's not, people should move on and focus on the big important stuff.

Like whether the government and prime minister are trustworthy and competent?

Ah, but, there's no one better to take his place

Not in the Tory party, no.

Oh my god... have your heard the rumours about how they'll keep their more nutty MPs on side when/if they u-turn on the windfall tax to help with household fuel bills this winter...

- oil and gas suppliers will have to promise to open up new fields (so much for net zero)

- renewable energy suppliers will be hit with the windfall tax as well (so much for investing in renewables)

Thanks to some dude up there ^^ I'm now permanently left with the most apt description of that horror-show of a human being "The Unflushable Turd"

I don't see this particular push of the button (or yank of the cistern chain if you're Rees Mogg) having much effect but we await the ballcock valve noise regardless, ready for another go.

You see, people say this and then it isn’t.

It could be the tipping point for enough Tory MPs to write letters of no confidence to the 1922 Committee, therefore triggering a leadership contest.

Easy to be cynical, and understandable, but he WILL go at some point and it might be sooner than people think. We know the Tories are ruthless when it comes to getting shot of once-popular leaders.

You know when someone has a carrot removed from their arse at A&E, and they say they “fell on it while eating a salad in the nude”? This “just bumped in to a party” excuse is about as plausible.

Also it's the 8th time this week that they've accidentally fallen on a carrot, and they came to A&E with a bunch of mates who also had carrots up their bums. And a greengrocer.

My true-blue voting friend tried saying that the other day, i was having none of it and pointed out it was a big deal because the prime-minister broke the law whilst others were suffering.
My aunt died alone whilst they were having the parties. I don't particularly feel like letting them off or moving on

Lied to her royal celestial majesty the Queen.
That should be a hanging offence in the eyes of every true blue patriot gammon.
Remind them of that.

I blame those EU regulations restricting flush volumes. In the old days one pull on the chain and a PM would be sailing away into history.

It is slightly concerning...judging by the pictures of what is a work event (or NOT a party) in the main Government building outwith Parliament itself. Going by the amount of alcohol in the pictures I can see why all these government plans and announcements are being so bad - we've got angry drunks and badly hungover people trying to decide what needs done to fix things.

Brexit and the headache that is causing - (stinking hangover) - we'll mess up the Ireland stuff
Energy crisis and Cost of Living - (man, I'm needing another drink...) - let them get on with it as it is stopping me having more alcohol

etc., etc.

I may start bringing bottles of wine and spirits in to the office and have them lying about so that we can start having a similar work ethos - if it works for the government, then I predict a very similar success rate at any workplace that follows this example of 'work event'!

Suspect this has already been said further up but I've been busy today and not had a chance to keep reading this thread as it grows, but that is now off my chest!

Apparentl;y 40 letters or so in to the 1922 (54 needed)

I still think it will take losing the next 2 by-elections before the Tories finally make a move

Where's that from? Twitter rumour?

And was that prior to this story?

It's now or never not for some time (when there's a more-obvious successor), I reckon.

I still think it will take losing the next 2 by-elections before the Tories finally make a move

2 by-elections caused by one Tory MP sexually assaulting a child and the other by another Tory MP repeatedly watching porn at work

And with that you can take the moral temperature of the modern Tory party

And you wonder why they're in no rush to get rid of the fly-tipped sofa?

The whole party is a morally bankrupt cesspit of sleaze and corruption. Could they possibly have a more fitting figurehead?

The Tories haven't been dragged down, this is their natural milieu. The only difference being the scandals have been more visible, offensive and more lucrative. When the button is pressed on Johnson it won't be out of moral indignation it will be that he has passed the point where he can save their skin.

Deja vu?

Apparently he generally shows even less contrition in front of the 1922 committee than he does to the rest of us. Quite some achievement

In other news: It doesn't look like the Mets 'we have no further comment to make' line about their Downing Street whitewash is going to hold. Its unbelievable arrogance on their behalf that they thought it would. But then we don't do accountability in this country any more, do we?

It isn't going to matter. If it really comes to it it will be:

Starmer hates the Queen.

Labour are traitors who want us back in the EU.

Labour will let millions of forriners in to take your job/house/wife.

Labour want to give your money to benefits cheats.

Here's a picture of some union jacks.

Free pint of Carling with The Sun.

Result -> another Tory GE win.

I thought about doing that. As a civil servant, would be interesting to see how they would deal with me. In fact, I think maybe the union should call for a "BYOB" protest rather than a strike. More people could afford to do that than lose a day's pay and pension 🤔

That will come as early as today, when a number of the officers tasked with not spotting Boris Johnson in a series of piss-up photos get signed off with stress.

And of course point blank refute that any drinking had taken place, or if it had you were not aware, and if you were aware of it then you certainly didn't know it was in any way inappropriate at work.

I couldn’t see my mum while all this was going on. Fuçk Johnson. Losing his PM title is the least that should happen to him. I know people who couldn’t see their partner. I know NHS staff who stayed away from home and couldn’t see their young kids. I couldn’t say goodbye to my uncle, or attend his funeral. Screw this waste of space PM and get him on the political scrap heap sooner rather than later. It should have happened long ago. Is this the best that we can do, really? Accepting this man as the leader of our country is degrading and humiliating. He needs to be gone. Long gone.

Fully agree with that kelvin, lots of people like you made horrific sacrifices on Johnson's orders for the good of the country. To now know that he was flouting them himself so blatantly and all his subsequent lying and dodging of and consequences for himself is just immoral. I spent the whole of those timeframes only seeing my parents in a carer capacity, as per the rules, and would have killed to be allowed just an hour with friends to relieve all the stress that was building up but I didn't. The damage that has done (and is still doing to an extent) to my mental wellbeing is more than enough to make me want to do very bad and illegal things to Johnson if our paths ever cross, how the hell people like yourself got through it all I don't know.

At minimum he should be gone by the end of the week but we all know that will not happen.

Johnson is horrendous but even worse are the spineless, manipulative, self-serving Cabinet Ministers and back benchers minimising his behaviour and dragging the whole country in to the morass. It’s frightening they can’t see beyond protecting their own arses rather than the interests of the citizens of the country. We are f***ing f^^^ed.

They're indignant because the boss that sanctioned it all got let off and they didn't

surprise

what a surprise...

Rishi Sunak is on course to announce a multibillion-pound financial package to help with the cost of living on Thursday, just a day after the anticipated Sue Gray report, Sky News understands.
