Well, most people never voted for him, but we all paid him attention when he should have just been ignored.

And more stuff dribbles out!

The telegraph apparantly has photos taken at one of the parties according to the Guardian and texts about it as well as eyewitness reports

Poor little Alexander. Sorry, no, we’re all culpable to a degree for allowing him to gain the power he has, but ultimately, he is at the centre of so much damage to the UK, all in his own interest.

Hang on, that was in no way an attempt to exonerate him. He is fully responsible for lots of the things you say. But he came to power because people voted for him, and they did that because they are politically ignorant; easily convinced by a fake personality and a supportive bent media; and are jingoistic. Ignorance, disinterest and the associated gullibility is the disease.

As ever, very wise words from molgrips. I'm hoping Boris is the peak of this pandemic, but I fear other variants will follow in his wake.

Hard agree molgrips. And he’s a bit of laugh, so not like all those other politicians 😞.

Good. Old. XXXX.

Just XXXX being XXXX.

XXXX is trying his best, he’s just a normal bloke.

I am actually surprised when the cameras take to the streets and people are saying 'everyone makes mistakes we need to get on with it' I mean how many people do they interview to find these people, 1 out of 25, Come up to Scotland and see how much slack the public cut him (even his MPs up here think he is an arse)

My MP is Alister Jack....  I think it's fair to say I've spoken to no-one else around here who share's his particular enthusiasm for Boris.  But then I probably don't move in the right circles.

Wasn’t he part of the clearout when Boris got rid of anyone moderately sane who had any notable hint of ability?

No, he just wasn't Brexit enough for Johnson but Remain enough for remainers to be beguiled .
Rory Stewart isn't some sort of 'moderately sane', good egg, research his voting record on welfare. He's just another born to rule, Etonian Tory.

Come up to Scotland and see how much slack the public cut him (even his MPs up here think he is an arse)

It occurred to me watching QT last night that Scottish Tories bashing Johnson plays well with Scottish Tory voters and English Tories bashing Scottish Tories plays well with English Tory voters. Seems to me that the Tories have played a clever hand.

It also occurred to me that describing Rees Mogg as 'A Steam Punk C3PO' is probably the only time I've ever been amused at QT

"The telegraph apparantly has photos taken at one of the parties according to the Guardian and texts about it as well as eyewitness reports"

What are the odds that staff from the Daily Torygrift were at at least one of the parties...

“The word party suggests... balloons and poppers"

I love that people are fixating on the balloons and not the poppers. I mean, presumably he meant party poppers but...

Yeah I dunno. People are fickle as we've seen. If your entire appeal is that you're likeable and it turns out that you're not, the previous likeability will be seen as being fake, which should convert all previous goodwill to animosity. In other words, support could collapse pretty quickly since he has nothing else. Well, except for getting Brexit done. But even when Churchill got the war done the electorate binned him pretty quickly.

It's not just popularity, it's deference. When he'd avoid an issue/question with some cod Latin quote people looked up to him: Eton and Oxford, he must be a good egg. This deference leads people to think that they should endure austerity whilst clearly the ruling class does not share this view for themselves. And there's lots more of this to come.

@jam-bo that is how I see it too. The UK has had a political competence deficit for a long long time. Perhaps centuries I don't know.

Falkirk mark - that would be the norm for this sort of thing.  Don't worry - everything has been leaked including that email.

Molgrips - you do not have to go back far to find politicians with integrity and ability.  funnily the first names that come to mind are tories but even so.

Maybe this was why the refurb bill was so high- constant repairs after each party.

No, the gatherings (if there were any … Cummings claims there were) in the furnished part of the flat aren’t part of this. And aren’t being included in the scapegoating report Sue Grey is working on.

,perhaps you have to have a stripper/hookers & Coke for it to be a party.

You see its a 'Grey' area. If you invite stripers and hookers its obviously 'a party'  - so everyones having a party yes? Well no... for strippers and hookers being at a party is work - because thats their job, so for them its a 'work event'.

Same thing happens if you invite a clown. A clown would obviously think if he got an email inviting him to attend a party that he was going to a work event.

I think you're doing the clown community a great disservice. Being a clown is neither work nor party.

Being a clown, a bumbling, poorly dressed figure of fun lurching from one catastrophe to the next while people stare open mouthed is a life choice.

Nah, he's a clown. He tries to portray a friendly character but underneath the facade he's a sinister bastard with scary harmful thoughts and actions.

Children should be scared of him and his clown mates. Their future is in his hands

We now have Tory MPs calling for criminal investigations into the parties and the blackmail with Wragg actually setting up a meeting with cops to discuss

If this Grauniad story is to be believed then Gray report is gong to be very definitive and have the evidence we need.

The trouble is they will just pass off Nusrat Ghani and Christian Wakeford's allegations as just sour grapes, and you will have to like it or lump it. What they are suggesting simply doesn't happen, ever at all, according to the likes of Connor Burns ( in his spat with Eddie Mair on LBC the other evening). Is that the same Connor Burns who resigned his post as Trade Minister after he was found to have made veiled threats whilst attempting to intervene in his fathers dispute over a loan ?

It matters not what excuses they come up with - the Gray investigation looks like she has the smoking gun and the police have now been involved.  We now know that there was also a party in the no 11 flat hosted by Carrie antoinette

Johnson is toast and so are others now I think

From timbers' tweet:

“At the post-reshuffle meeting with the whips I asked what the thinking was behind the decision to fire me and what the mood music was when my name was mentioned in No 10 concerning the reshuffle. I was told that at the reshuffle meeting in Downing Street that ‘Muslimness’ was raised as an ‘issue’, that my ‘Muslim woman minister’ status was making colleagues uncomfortable and that there were concerns ‘that I wasn’t loyal to the party as I didn’t do enough to defend the party against Islamophobia allegations’.

“When I challenged whether this was in any way acceptable and made clear there was little I could do about my identity, I had to listen to a monologue on how hard it was to define when people are being racist and that the party doesn’t have a problem and I needed to do more to defend it.

How messed up is that: sacked for both being Muslim making her colleagues uncomfortable and not defending the party against accusations of being Islamophobic. 'We tolerated you so we could say we aren't racist but you're not doing your job well enough'. Disgusting ****s

Steady on TJ.
The police haven't confirmed they're doing anything - yet; they should and there will be serious accusations if they don't.
The carrie antoinette allegations are yet to be proven;I hope they are.
Won't be long before some indisputable facts emerge.
Completely agree with your toasted johnson sentiment.
Tomorrow's front pages should make for entertaining reading.

police have now been involved.

Just imagine they had a high ranking official in the Met Police in their pocket 😉

It a bit like a real life Line of Duty series, only a bit more unbelievable ☹️

How messed up

Very messed up. And no surprise. The last leadership election ended up with all candidates promising that anti-Muslim attitudes and actions in the party would be investigated and dealt with. Unfortunately Johnson won, and breaking a promise comes as easily to him as a fart.

No doubt I'll get flamed for bringing Corbyn into this but imagine if his chief whip had said anything like this to a Jewish MP. Hierarchy of racism in full effect.

Fair enough Frank but Wragg is meeting cops tomorrow and he will not be doing this without good evidence - apparently conversations have been recorded

I’ve only just found out what you mean! Blimey. Did this come out of Gray interviewing Cummings? If there is evidence of one of the gatherings in the flat, Johnson can’t just change a few staff members and move on, surely?

Now, let’s get Gray looking into the goings on at Chequers, there will be a trail there if she is allowed to look and staff safely feel they can be honest because Johnson is on the way out.
