So, do I go for the earliest date available, 24th Jan, to get it out the way, or go for the latest date, 18th Feb, so I don't have to think about it for a while?
For the record, I usually rip plasters off quickly.
24th Jan, then you have less chance of speeding again inadvertently
Get a grip
Is this like a badge of honour for people too soft to get an ASBO? 😉
so I don't have to think about it for a while?
Surely the point of the course is so you do think about it and then don't speed in the future. Just get it done
Get a grip
Ok. Close your eyes first.
just book it for a date you can do. It's not that bad.
I'd pick the date that is most likely to stop you posting boring threads.

😀
As soon as possible, before you kill a child or kitten or something 😡
I've done one and I'm sorry to tell you that they are an opportunity the government has missed. Mine was dull, silly and poorly presented. I did not go home and make a life-changing decision never to exceed the speed limit again.

Yawn.
Did one recently in East Midlands. Went in thinking it will be a tedious 4 hours of being told off. It wasn't. I learnt a lot, it was interesting and I would recommend it to anyone. Also some hot females present....not a bad evening.
I went on one about three years ago, and I thought it was actually a very good course. They covered a lot of the observational and driving skills that you find on a IAM course. Granted, it might be run by a different agency in your area, and it might not be as good, but for the course I went on, there was no patronising or judging, just a fairly intresting presentation. You'll probably learn something if you change your attitude.
18 th please as I am off work and will therefore be able to [s]avoid[/s] give your minute by minute updates of what they have just said my fullest attention
I quite enjoyed the course, found it pretty useful and interesting. The guy delivering was knowledgeable and engaging.
I think they should be compulsory at point of passing the driving test, there was stuff in there I should've known but didn't have to know to pass my driving test.

Strongly disagree.

Agree.
You should just get a free one every couple of years, instead of having to get caught speeding first.
They should be a practical element though - thrapping a sportscar over t'moors whilst Vicky Butler-Henderson gently stokes your gearstick and reminds you to slow down. A bit.

Apparently, some course providers do have a practical element. That would have been amazeballs. Sadly, AA DriveTech don't.
I'd recommend taking the points and having a day out riding your bike instead. Or alternatively if you're worried about how much extra your insurance will be, sell a day's holiday back to your employer.

+1

But that doesn't have the potential to make you a safer driver, or less likely to pick up further points. 🙂

I'd suggest that having only 9 to go is more deterrent than a 4 hour course that you forget about within a few months.
4 things the tutors passed on to me when I did it.
Oh and stay in 3rd gear to reduce the risk of speeding in a 30 zone.
Lamp posts indicate a 30mph speed limit
Some vans can only travel at 50 on a dual carriageway; and
I'm smug because I get 60mpg+ out of my skoda
One of the guys was a real bully and had one of the younger female attendees crying after she was caught playing with her phone.
Well, looks like you remembered quite a bit.
Worked, didn't it? 😀
Mine was run by two RoSPA blokes - one sounded uncannily like John Shuttleworth, but they were both helpful and pleasant.
I was planning on playing with my phone, and I cry easily.
Not looking good 😥
I did two courses. I found them really useful.

Is that the speed awareness course or the driving awareness course? The two are different. The driver who hit me was sent on a driving awareness course as her driving into me at a few miles per hour was nothing to do with excessive speed (Other than 'if she hadn't been moving she wouldn't have hit me'). I'm sure that has a practical element, no idea if you can 'fail' though.
I thought mine was pretty good actually.
And as for playing with your phone, I'm not surprised they gave her a talking to, they make it quite clear that you have to swtich your phone off for the duration.
