We had a screen free weekend in the Fla household this weekend and it made me realise how reliant we are on the things to entertain the MiniFla's, any one have any suggestions for boardgames and the like to keep them entertained inside (the oldest is 7).
We have labyrinth which he loves if that helps !
Our two are loving 'Guess Who' at the moment (5 years old). So simple but they keep going back to it.
Get them started on some real games.

Catan -7 + ish
There's Kids of Catan and Catan Juniors; Juniors is 7+, the Kids' I linked to is 4+.
(Never played any of them, but the grown-ups version is a stone cold classic)

Yep - our eldest has played that since she was 3 and is surprisingly good at it. Great way to teach them a bit of logic.
Try to get the classic version though (we got ours at a jumble sale) the modern versions are absolutely rubbish with crappy gimmicks like alternate cards and electronics.
Likewise all kids still love Kerplunk but try to get the classic one with marbles.
My kids (boys 8 & 6) love Dungeon
It's really simple to play and I've picked up both HeroQuest and Advanced HeroQuest in the last couple of months from eBay.
The wife has already warned me not to start painting my own minatures etc on the dining room table and getting a load of 40+ geeks round for D&D nights!!!!
Don't forget card games - Rummy for example. Or Cheat.
'Forbidden Island' is a good one. It's nice because it doesn't have a board (card based playing area), so even the set up is exciting and it's co-operative rather than head to head.
Takes a bit of learning the first couple of times you play but it's well worth the effort.

Loads of info here http://boardgamegeek.com/
Junior Monopoly was a hit with my daughter when she was 6.
The good thing is that games do not drag on in the way that sometimes happens in the Adult version.
Yahtzee! Teach them arithmetic and probability.
Junior Scrabble.
Bananagrams is a great little word game, a bit like free form scrabble. Good for kids to test their spelling.
Uno is also a favorite and gets taken on every trip we make (thinking of getting another pack to put in the car)
Never played any of them
Catan Junior is a faster version of Catan [ same basic premise but using a 1-6 dice]and played since we were 5-6 ish iirc
bought on your recommendation as well
Jenga FTW
Oh, also mousetrap and operation
Does it have to be boardgames? if not then LEGO has a good track history of entertaining kids of all ages.
Another screen free weekend? Let me guess, MrsFla suggested it and then went to work all weekend? Again!?
Cadoo kept my pair entertained for hours - they needed the adults to play to keep the thing going but it was actually good fun!
Nope, she insisted on a family weekend and I wasn't allowed to go riding, so I went for the screen free nuclear option !Another screen free weekend? Let me guess, MrsFla suggested it and then went to work all weekend? Again!?
Thanks for all the suggestions, the amazon shopping cart is now getting rather full !
Jenga
Frustration
Snakes and Ladder
Draughts
Dominoes
Cards - old maid, rummy, pairs.
Chess is a good one - my two got into it around 5 years old as we used to go to a coffee shop that had a set out. I dont think they'd have had the patience if they were at home with a million other options but in the cafe they would focus on it
And Sorry! - always a laugh when all four kids play it together
Stratego is very good too (was going to suggest Labyrinth as I find that enjoyable for everyone of all ages).
Not sure if it counts as a board game as such but Frustration is our favourite.
Stratego is very good too
I used to love that. I remember playing against my grandad when I was young. He organised his pieces in strict rank order and formation like a good army man. And they were easily massacred by my less predictable attacks and bluffs.
It was a learning moment for both of us 😀
