Looking at getting the kids some bluetooth speakers for xmas for them to use with ipods etc.

Have seen a few in Tescos etc like Boombars and Juice box which seem reasonable but not sure on quality.

Doesn't need to be mega loud or on par with your latest Bose offering but just good value for money.

Sub £50 would be ideal.

Any experience of the above or recommendations?

I got one of these to take on holiday - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Betron-MC500-Mini-Bluetooth-Speaker/dp/B00GXO1KD8/ref=sr_1_25?s=network-media&ie=UTF8&qid=1479472171&sr=1-25 and it's great. Possibly a bit cheap for what you want but I'd buy another.

JBL Flip is the STW-approved choice I believe.

Don't think you'll get a Flip 3 for £50, but they are well worth the £70 you can buy them for.

I have a JBL Flip 2, it's genuinely excellent!

I too shall recommend the JBL flip...I've a 1 and a 2... Both great.
Put them down your trousers and there literally IS a party in your pants.

For the money, I reckon you'll struggle to get much better than the classic Anker Bluetooth speaker, for £27:

This one....
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Portable-Wireless-Bluetooth-Microphone/dp/B00GZC35YK

Sound is good, it feels well made (although the on/off switch feels a bit weedy) and battery life is exceptional. I think that Anker quote 20hrs & I can well believe it. I hardly ever have to charge it.
Only annoying feature is the loud squawking sound it makes when you turn it on.

They also do this one:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-SoundCore-Dual-Driver-Distortion-Microphone/dp/B016MO90GW/ref=pd_lpo_107_bs_tr_t_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=YG2EKPV01VAYHJT0CV4X

which gets good reviews, but I have no experience of.

I've got a Jam touch, good build quality and plenty loud enough for us to use at a recent house party in the kitchen.

I had a Jam classic before this and it was no where near as good.

I've got one of the other Anker ones : https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0109TWZ54/ref=psdc_617419011_t3_B016MO90GW

Really good sound, but annoying "Dum-dum de dum" noise on startup and shows fingerprints better than an episode of CSI. Not at all rugged so maybe not for kids.
