Windows open, raptors circling above the house, sun shining down but all I can hear is whistles of sodding chuff chuffs, presumably from Didcot Rail Centre.
At least its not a Thomas Day.

I took the Amtrak sleeper from Chicago to San Antonio. The romance of it all was spoilt by every road crossing (hundreds) requiring a blast of the horn on approach. It was funny the first 20 times but then...

Not the most annoying train-related noise, though, is it?

is this like people who move next to a pub and complain about the noise? 🤔
They are bloody loud though, used to live next to a railway station that had the occasional steam train!

No. Its about four miles away and the noise only drifts over with the wind in the right direction on a calm, otherwise quiet day.

If I want to really complain about train noise I would mention the idling diesel trains just down the road from the place in Weymouth. Just sat there ticking over for hours. Literally hours. I've not been down since early March but there was a piece on the BBC website about it back then. But then I'm in a town so you expect noise and TBH the bloody seagulls are worse 🙂 and I don't moan about them apart from when they've got new chicks.

I took the Trans Siberian Express Moscow to Peking. 15 minute stops every 4 hours day and night and stuff all food until China.

Am I wrong in thinking there’s something of a contradiction in there somewhere?
