Seems my wife's iPhone is unable to sync contacts to the iCloud 👿

Any free app recommendations that I can use to export them from the phone to the desktop so that I can then import them into [s]a system that actually works[/s] Google Contacts?

Why? MrsGrahamS and I use the same set of contacts on two iphones and an iPad, all synced via iCloud. No issue.

Any free app recommendations that I can use to export them from the phone to the desktop so that I can then import them into Google Contacts?

No need for desktop at all. Just set up the Google account on the iPhone and have that sync contacts.

Brilliant atlaz, thanks.

WTH can't Apple build something into the OS like that in the first place. God I hate Apple stuff (which is odd 'cos I was a bit of a fan!).

because it's not needed - as GrahamS said the sync works fine normally, it's obviously something up with your wife's phone. You can toggle various things like contacts, etc, manually to sync (or not) with iCloud... has this been done accidentally?

Er well it doesn't on my wife's phone. Flatly refused to sync any icloud contacts up, and yes everything was set up right.
Plenty of threads about it on the internet.
All the Gmail contacts sync'd fine.
So just sticking to Google from now on.

All contacts should sync with iCloud - try deleting and re-adding the account

Apple aren't going to go out of their way / soend deveioment dollars to make it easy for you to transfer all your stuff off and to a competitors eco-system

true (I've just googled it!) seems to be a solution though, although as you say you've sorted it now
