Or an I a curmudgeonly old git who wallows in others misfortune?

Examples - is there anything finer in world sport than beating the aussies be it England at cricket or Scotland at rugby? Or watching the tories make a mess of things?

Exhibit A - Ponting chewing a wasp*

I once had one of those page-a-day desk calenders with a cartoon on each page. One particular day, the joke mentioned schadenfreude. Someone came over to my desk to talk about work, read the cartoon, and looked puzzled because they didn't know what schadenfreude meant.

I chuckled to myself.

So meta 😀

I was brought up believing it's bad form to gloat at other people's failures but there are times when it's good to see someone get their just desserts, a bully or an aggressive driver for example.

I always think if I indulge in schadenfreude karma kicks me in the nads. 🙁

When the manager who has been a dick to you for the past 18 months gets made redundant. And you don't.

Never enjoyed signing a leaving card so much in my life.

TM isn't looking disappointed; she's checking on the latest idiotic tweet from Donald.

May looks like she's just realised that the cheap toilet paper she used wasn't 4-ply

I think TM is less schadenfreude, more weltschmerz (depression caused by comparing the actual world with what you think/thought it would be).

According to a German colleague who just walked past me and had me explain why I was looking at photos, the correct word for TM and Salmond is "backpfeifengesicht" ... faces that are in great need of being punched.

I saw a post on FB today - an American company had a load of GPS tracking kit stolen.

The police for some reason found it quite east to locate the thieves and their haul! 🙂

"Schadenfreude, huh? What's that, some kind of Nazi word?"
"Yep, it's German for 'happiness at the misfortune of others'"
"Happiness at the misfortune of others. That is German!"

Aww come on! - check that look on Hoopers face!

I always took the line it was inappropriate to wallow in anyone else's misfortune - unless it was an Australian sporting team, in which case it's open season...

TJ, that picture of Salmond brings two words to mind - "Menie Estate", so in answer to your question - No there probably isn't

Exhibit A - Ponting chewing a wasp*

nothing better.
whinging about the sub fielder.
whinging about the light which stopped them batting for a result (ignoring the fact their previous whinge had set a light level precedent for the rest of the ashes series)
and they have the gall to call us whinging.

its worth having a look at The Age or Sydney morning herald cricket sections when they are getting their arses kicked, the biased reporting and comments are very entertaining 😆

"faces in need of being punched".
IMO Will Carling always fitted that bill nicely..

My ultimate example of this is when an old biddy tried to squeeze her car past me (riding my bike) in a completely inappropriate urban street. She smashed into the curb of the central reservation and the front tyre of her car instantly exploded.

I cycled off without even making a rude gesture 8)

Big cheer on the trading floor the morning Ed Ball's result was announced.

Salmond, well he'll be back and he probably (possibly) claimed another £50k "loss of seat" allowance.

That's not very socialist or inclusive of you tj to bathe in the poor souls' failure and under achievement.

[s]You keep going on about Theresa and now you're mocking the under achievers. I'm not sure your capitalist, blue tie side isn't starting to overcome the socialist angel on the left shoulder.

Next thing you'll be buying a 4*4 and be commuting daily in it to Cardiff.[/s]

Too far maybe?!
