Just tried to list something as NEW (other) on ebay and no matter what I did it wouldnt let me saying that something in my title conflicted with the new other box.
I even removed all the text from the title and just put "boxed" and it still wouldnt let me. They dont tell you what the bloody key words are though. So had to list as used to shut them up. Couldnt even put "as new" in the title..
NEW means goods/transactions within the realms of the sale of goods act with all the burdens on the seller and protections to the buyer that entails.
If you're selling something that you've bought and never used it might be 'good as new' in terms of its physical condition but its not NEW in selling terms. Its second hand and a 'buyer beware' transaction in that context, and without the warrantee a retailer would have to honour. I guess thats the discrepancy that EBAY are trying to address. 'New Other' would cover things like factory-repacked, shop soiled etc - goods form a vendor that would still be covered under the sales of goods legislation, not unused items from a private seller.
So why do private sellers get the New or New Other option?
Its the same interface for everyone, private or trade
