Any other day of the week, they'd be saying how the police's eye in the sky leaves criminals with nowhere to hide etc.
As for the waste of money aspect, nicking and charging someone for most crimes is going to be more expensive than the damage they've actually caused / goods they've nicked. Surely this is obvious?!
