The wifes had her little fiat for 14 years now (since new). Only done 40k miles.
The gearbox is a bit clunky (as per other post may just need adjusting or may be more serious). It's only done 45k miles and other wise a good little runner. Recently had tyres/service. We've decided it's time to sell it.
What's the best way to sell it and get the most $ in a hassle free transaction?
Obviously if advertising it I'd mention the [potential] issue with the gears...I'm not looking to rip anyone off. Just want a fair price and no comeback IF the gearbox goes shortly after it's sold!
ebay?
autotrader?
dealer?
anything else?
Where/how would you sell it?
I'm confused by how many miles it's done, 14K or 45K?
Unless it's something special, a 14 year old Fiat isn't worth much anyhow
Hassle free transaction would be a trade in if you can drive it there
sorry it's done 45k.
we're not looking to replace it so a trade in isn't an option.
Regardless of the miles, the condition of the car or even a dodgy gearbox, a 14 year old Fiat isn't going to be worth much. Shove it on eBay with a 99p start price and if you get enough for a takeaway I'd be happy 😀
Why do you want to sell it?
Get the gearbox checked and if it's not terminal run the thing into the ground, if it still drives OK apart from a "clunky gearbox" what's the problem?
As above a 14 yr old Fiat will only be worth a few quid.
I have an old Peugeot that the clutch failed on yesterday, not worth getting it fixed so I'll be sticking on ebay.
But as above we have pretty much run it into the ground. If I get a couple of hundred quid I'll be happy. 2 litre petrol engine if anyone wants a new toy to fix 🙂
Burn it and collect on the insurance?
Probably worth draining the gearbox oil and putting some fresh in there. It'll be well past its best and even though its done minimal miles may well need topping up.
Or
It may just need the clutch adjusting (if cable) or bleeding (if hydraulic).
Strip it for parts and sell on Ebay?
Wot DaveyBoy said. eBay, Ddeclare the issue, if someone gives you money & takes it away you've done alright !
As above flush and refill gearbox (it may have run quite dry via small leak ?). 45k miles it should't be worn out, possibly some corrosion or non metallic parts worn. If it runs well then it shouod be good for parts or a new box from a home mechanic.
@gobuch insurance and road tax getting it MOT'd, if the OP doesn't need the car he's paying bills he doesn't need to £500 a year ?
