Live, the 1992 Senior TT, with Steve Hislop taking a brilliant win over Carl Fogarty.
Lap records broken, first win for Norton in 19 years and a margin of only 4 and a half seconds between them at the end.
Sat at the Gooseneck for the race, blazing sunshine and the atmosphere was just incredible.
Something I'll never forget.

Very close second are the two Man U v Oldham FA Cup semi's in 1990.
Lucky enough to get tickets for both matches - wonderful games, brilliant atmosphere, amazing support from both sets of fans.

What are yours? Doesn't have to be one you saw live, but being there certainly adds something for me.

Live, close call between Munster's first Heineken Cup win or Liverpool v Arsenal FA Cup Final; both at the Millennium Stadium.

Not Live? Too many...possibly Ireland winning the Grand Slam at the Millennium or The Miracle of Istanbul.

Actually there - cricket but that was mainly due to being really pissed 😉

Houns wins.

Bath's first John Player (Pilkington) Cup in 1984 (A 10-9 win. Bristol's Stu Barnes missed a pen in injury time) the first of many, many Bath wins in that era.

Or TdF Prologue in 2007. Or maybe the Olympic Road Race this year.

Sept 2001 White Hart Lane ... Spurs 3 Man U 5

Spurs 3-0 up at half time and I started my first and subsequently only chant at the Lane "Sulli what’s the score? Sulli, Sulli what’s the score?"

Obviously we went on to lose and all the goals were scored down the opposite end of the ground... but for 45 odd mins we were gods and it really was the best game of live football I've ever seen

😆 That Newcastle Barcelona game was awesome.

The two 4-3 between Liverpool and Newcastle were awesome too, though more so from a red-tinted view (i.e. not trying to wind the Geordeis up).

Live as in in the flesh, at the venue?

Dunno one for the FW world cups probably or my first 10UTB that was really live!

Live but not at the venue 2008 Brazilian GP, Massa had it won and then Hamilton one at the final corner I was literally on my feet.

t'Olympics, this year. Didn't see any particularly dramatic events / finishes, but the overall atmosphere and sense of occasion really did make it a "once in a lifetime" experience.

Marshaslok versus Marsaskala in the Maltese water polo cup final in 1976. An unbelievable occasion, huge brawl between the players after 5 minutes, all the trophys and medals went in the water, local dignitaries ran for their lives and the referee was rescued by a Police launch. It's still the most amazing sporting moment I've ever witnessed.

Certainly being at the RWC 2003 final is number one, but honourable mention to the 1st Day of the 2005 Ashes, a roller-coaster of a day which set up a roller-coaster of a series.

scotland vs england @ Murrayfield in 2000

Everyone in the ground expected Scotland to get a pasting, especially the England team & fans, the weather favoured a less glamourous game than the English standard at the time and Scotland acheived a famous victory.

The victory was made even sweeter by the fact my English uncle had been giving me and my mates a load of stick before the match, he was rather quiet afterwards 🙂

That was incredible. Walking into the Newcastle arms afterwards, the whole place was singing and chanting 'Tino Tino Tino' until we all got kicked out at closing time...

The Tour of Flanders 2011, on the muur was just incredible. Drunk, right under the chapel, the helicopters begin to circle overhead, and the roar works it's way up the hill, my spine is tingling just thinking about it.

1999 Monaco GP.

Watched from the cheap seats on the hillside - awesome atmosphere, and noise, amazingly open track and pit area before/after the race and other sessions. Stunning amount of cash on show in terms or cars, people, yachts etc.

Great long weekends with a bunch of mates, too much beer and sun.... ace.

Interesting one Pigface, full of atmosphere and educational to see how the East German and Chech teams were well disciplined - all riding over the same line to within a sixpence width on the special test.

Arthur Browning was a sight to behold on the big Yam too.

It was that event that decided me to take up enduros before I got too old.

Apart from that it woud have to be a TT or SSDT but there are too many memories to allow choice of a specific one.

Saw Haille break the indoor 5000m world record 10 minutes after saying hello and posing for photos.
My brother was in Istanbul in 2005 for Liverpool's fantastic European cup win!

On the flip side went to the British GP this year and it was shit.

Rusty Spanner:
Good shout for 1992 Senior. I was at Hilberry cheering Foggy. When he came past on the last lap his bike looked and sounded like he had found it in a skip! Awesome race.
Wigan v St Helens June 2010. Always war between these two but this was an epic. 80 mins of sheer guts and violence, blood and broken bones then all smiles at the end. And a wonderful victory for Saints.

Olympics, last night of the athletics - Farrah winning the 5000, Jamacians breaking 4x100 WR - best because I watched it with my daughter

Honourable mentions for sporting drama (in order)

New Zealand v France 1999 RWC SF (from a purely sporting perspective the greatest)
England v Australia - 2007 RWC QF
France v Brazil - 1998 football world cup final

I went to both of those as well but the emotional involvement when your team in playing puts a big occasion onto another level.

1994 first division play-off final at 13 years old, Steve Walsh scored in the 84th minute to make it 2-1 to Leicester after being 1-0 down.

Or the 2009 Heineken Cup Semi Final between Leicester and Cardiff which went to a penalty shoot out! My farther in-law to be uttered the words "we can't lose this now" at 26-12 up with 6 minutes left, only for them to score 2 converted tries to make it 26-26 after full and extra time. Cardiff then missed a kick to win it, then Martyn Williams missed his sudden death kick and Jordan Crane put his over!

Hard to choose between 2 Spurs games when, playing as underdogs, we beat the (unbeaten in the league) Arsenal or the (reigning European Champions) Inter Milan 3-1. Taxi for Maicon or Gazza's "schoolboys own stuff"?

Not sure of the year, 1988 maybe, Start line of RAC rally in Grizedale I think, Michele Mouton, Walter Rohrl in Audi quattro S4s the ground shaking all around us, then total traction, and they're gone.

Just recently, had a great day out following ToB stage to Dartmouth on Motor bike, saw 4 spots. Such effort from the whole peloton, totally on it!

1972 FA Cup fifth round Orient V Chelsea

All ticket 30,000 crowd at Brisbane Road, muddy pitch in January

O's from the lower reaches of div 2, losing 0-2 after half hour to a Chelsea side that had players like Osgood, Webb, Harris etc etc.

Pulled one back just before half time, drew level about the hour mark and winner came with a minute left

Tempted to pick from a whole host of Celtic games. But I'll not since there's too many that spring to mind.

I'll go for the CL final at Hampden, Leverkusen v Real Madrid, and getting to see Zidane skelp and peach of a goal in the back of the net.

As a bit of side info, all the Lisbon Lions where invited to that game, with the exception being Bobby Murdoch. And as he was from our club, we decided to take along our new banner with his name on it to represent him.

Very fitting as that day was also the 1st year anniversary of his death.

Rangers fans in the crowd weren't best pleased to see a 40ft tricolour at the game, but they weren't the reason we took it.

RIP Bobby.

Exeter City Vs Plymouth Argyle sometime in the 80s

The local derby, a hate fuelled grudge match.. I was a young teen, stood on the home terraces freezing, it was close to Christmas..

During a lull, a large chap with a beautiful clear baritone stood right next to me breaks out with this..

Away in a manger
No crib for a bed
The little lord Jesus woke up and he said

WE HATE ARGYLE

it was a perfect moment and I wept unashamedly

I was stood on the top of the hill above the old hairpin at Donington Park for the 1993 European Grand Prix in the wet, where Senna drove what has been hotly argued as the best lap in a Formula one car in history where he came from the third row and passed everyone by the time he got back to the start line !

Link below

[url=

the best lap in an F1 car ever

A close second was to be stood at the side of the 18th Green at the Belfry when Europe took the USA apart on the final day of the 2002 Ryder cup. (The Paul Mcginley putt year)

Boardman's final hour record attempt at Manchester (the Athlete's Record).
I didn't think watching one person ride round a track for an hour would be terribly interesting, but the atmosphere was electric as he slipped behind schedule at half way, gradually clawed it back, and put everything into the last lap to beat the record by metres. Just a wall of noise as he pedalled the final laps.

2011 Trent Bridge Test, the Broad hat trick (he could bowl then).
Dravid hundred the same day!

Old Trafford Ashes Test 2005, Sunday, bowl out Australia, Warne getting 90, then England bat, Strauss gets a hundred, we declare and put them in for a few overs at the end of the day. Brilliant atmosphere, great banter. Vaughan's captaincy, ratcheting up the pressure.

The might Exeter City v Man Utd, FA cup third round. I think it was January 2005. It finished 0-0. The City fans drowned out Fergies prawn munchers. At the end of the game as we stayed to give the City players a standing ovation there were little pockets of City fans all over the stadium. Best chant was possibly "Nice ground s**t fans"
The coach home is a bit of a blur.
Shame they beat us in the replay

ISDE Enduro in Poland

Are you talking about the one in 87?
That was the first of three ISDE's I rode.

My vote goes for the MX GP at Hawstone in 84 when Jobe jumped over Malherbe.

I was stood in the crowd right next to the jump and it just blew me away.
Was a real indication of how MX would change.

I think I've still got Jobe's number bib from this event somewhere at my parents house.
