Following an unfortunate hot tub / iphone interface last week, my lad needs a new phone. He is paying so trying to do things on a budget, so probably 12 mini. I've previously used Amazon for refurb but interested t see if anyone has better / cheaper experience elsewhere.

Bought my mum a refurbished 12 from giffgaff. It was immaculate.
My 12 mini from MusicMagpie was as described and still working fine 3 years on so had no issues there. Not had to test customer service though as a result.

Typing this on a Backmarket sourced phone 11pro I’ve had for a couple of years. No complaints here, although it is basically a marketplace for fixers/repairers/refurbers, so quality is all about the end seller, not so much Backmarket themselves, very much like eBay.
I've had 6 phones over the years from loop_mobile on eBay. I don't look anywhere else now.
I used back market to find an iphone 13 mini, and am very pleased with it, though did originally regret not getting the Excellent condition for better battery health. Though this was only for longevity, not that I've experience issues in the 12 months+, I've owned it
I bought a refurb Iphone 13 for my daughter on MusicMagpie last month - it was their top condition tier and when she got it the battery life was low 90s and it started shutting off randomly after a day or so. The returns process was reasonably easy though they did attempt to fob me off with a 'fix' to start with but I insisted on a refund and that was very quick. It annoyed me that the supposed top tier phone hadn't been checked properly though and had a relatively low battery life so it put me off a refurb and I got a new one from John Lewis!

however, i'm also massively surprised at the cost and demand for something like an the 12 mini mentioned above, but i guess since it still supports the latest OS its a viable device
I bought an immaculate iPhone 15 pro max from Giff-gaff last year. It was about half the price of 'new', and apart from not having a box nobody would have been able to tell the difference. My friend was so impressed he did the same last week with a 15 pro.

I paid £160 for an iPhone 12 mini recently. Battery at 100% and very good condition. Very happy with it.
Useful information for anyone considering traveling to America - a decent second hand phone with an American network SIM, and no apps that might have any personal information that might attract unwanted attention…
I’m not being flippant, immigration can and will demand to look at the contents of your phone, and any reference to Agent Orange could see you refused entry. I certainly wouldn’t take any chances, and I’d have to make sure I didn’t have any of my photo library on any phone I took either. Basically a burner phone.
Japan is apparently doing something similar, they want five years worth of social media information, according to something I read the other day, but I’m not certain who they’re targeting.
