MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
The English Defence League are marching from one side of town to the centre.
The United Against Fascism are marching from the other end to meet basically across the road from the EDL to, as the Police Inspector said to me, throw handbags at each other.
The poor Apprentice Boys of Derry have also decided it'd be a good day for a march.
Oh, and the TUC are having a rally at the Monument.
There's a hundred times more police than usual so at least if you're struggling to find the time there'll be plenty of police to ask. Assuming, of course, he's got his watch on under the riot gear.
My new organisation, the SES (spurious excuse for a scrap) is available for hire to either side.
See website for pricing
In fairness, as unpleasant as these people are they are limited to a very small area, and certainly not a shopping area and will only be throwing handbags between 2 and 4ish...
The Geordie public will diffuse them with kindness.......
Yep, I actually got a travel alert forwarded from our Coorporate travel people telling us to avoid the area as there is a significant risk of violence. The only other one I've had recently has been regarding the protests in Bangkok.
happens every year, mainly around bigg market and high bridge, its no big deal
Woohhoo ... some entertainment at last so I guess I need to get up a bit early to watch.
😆
It's Newcastle. Do you think anyone'll notice?

Ye daft racist.
boxelder: "It's Newcastle. Do you think anyone'll notice?"
Dont they know Saturday is an off day to have good time? I mean the city will be full of short skirts ... LOL!

Depends if they are listening to their WhyAyePods.
There's no footy on, they've gotta have something to do 😀
as expected passed without incident. I was in town, and heard a lot of cockney / southern accents, boils my blood that people travel to these demos and then give us the bad name. W**nkers
I was there too. Marveled at the huge numbers of overtime earning police in Cafe Nero and propping up the station hotel fence.
Had minimal impact on my trip to the Apple store, where I think there were more people than on the demo.
For those who might be interested, I thought I'd post my shots from the day. There were a good few minor confrontations in the late morning, but fortunately the EDL were all tucked away in a handful of pubs, all getting tanked up and fuelling one another's bile.
We live in a country of angry people. Anger, to me, is typically a product of fear; and nowhere is there as much evidence for such an assertion than at a demonstration of politics. My own moment of anger came when I took the shot of the people who had brought their three children (toddler and two seven/eight year-olds), to whom they were supplying hate-filled slogans to shout at the world. My anger was born from my fear of what the future may hold - for them, for me and for every one of us. I'm still making sense of everything I saw and heard on Saturday; for all that it passed without any physical violence, I just can not help but feel as though I've been punched in the head.
Great Pics!
Nice picture set 3fish.
Brilliant pics Three_Fish.
I'm happy to report there was no trouble in the Metro Centre 😀
Great pics. Looks like a normal day in Newcastle.
Great Pics
I particularly liked the pic of the policeman showing his todger to the living statue.
I'm a bit confused why the English Defence League seem to be flying an Israeli and a Scottish flag?
Anyone care to give me a one-minute summary of the poltics there?
It's a real statue.
interesting "judge dredd" boots the rozzers are wearing + enough body armour for a STW xc ride on a towpath
Is it wrong that I quite like those Doc Martins??
is it wrong that i'd like the scum bags to be exterminated?
Great pics.
LOL! I think there were more Police than the marches.
Those marches looked totally out of place with their accents, in fact they all looked very foreign to the Geordies. LOL!
Good to see the police out in force for a while apart from the football matches. Some of the female police officers were rather decent looking too.
🙂
