Just bought my first van. A Berlingo XL panel van.
From what I've read, a lot of people on here have a van so might be able to help me with a couple of questions.
1. In the back, drivers side, there is a hole with a rubber grommet for (I'm guessing) a 12v cigarette lighter. Anyone know what i can wire one into? Is it likely to have unused wires ready for a cig lighter behind the trim?
2. Is there a way to add sound proofing to the bulkhead?
3. No locking wheel nuts or spare tyre. Worth getting any? It has steel wheels so not exactly expensive.
1, yes, the wiring loom (should be) is the same across the range, so there will be connectors hidden behind the dash somewhere.
2, just go on ebay and buy a roll of sticky sound deadening material. Something like this (the first I found in a search):
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/377119798698
3, yes, definitely, and get a decent jack and spanners/sockets to get the wheels off.
Enjoy. Getting a van shaped thing is the best thing I did, 12 months ago. Camping in it tonight and even squeezed 45mpg out of 180 horses on the way to Anglesey.
Nice, I've got a Connect that size. Perfect for the application if you're not planning on spoiling it by turning it into a camper! 😁
I'd not bother with locking wheel nuts. Definitely on steelies and even on standard alloys I think the risk of loosing the adapter or breaking them in some fashion outweighs the chance of having your wheels pinched.
Depending on the age (think it’s pre-2023) the first thing you want to do is make sure it’s had the cam chain recall carried out - assuming it’s a diesel
FYI. Re spare tyre (berlingo car), I got a secondhand car spare wheel off Facebook/ebay etc, the holding cage kit, jack, spacers and long bolt etc was cheaper than I expected new from Citroen
see end of page for spacers, bolt etc jack kit
**mine is a 25 car std wheelbase, so check which version you need, mine fitted without having to lift car
bleeding obvious - old lingos are 4 stud, newer are 5
Worth a reminder as it's your first van that van speed limits apply even though there is a car version.
Common misconception that all berlingos are car derived vans when in reality only the MK1 m49 and m59 small 600kg payload models ever qualified.

On this... Does the cage just fit?
I do not enjoy the lack of spare on ky combo life and the other day i looked underneath and the volume for tyre storage underneath is mega!
Also: (sorry OP)
I currently have a direct fit thule rack on the first two mounting points. Its loud as ****. Would it be daft to get a 3 rack van guard? It looks a bit more aero and isn't that expensive.
Thanks for the tips. Mines the L2 base. Does anyone know of the spare wheel carrier would fit? The link says for L1 but the wheels are the same. My old Berlingo MPV had one which unscrewed from inside the boot but the van has a plywood floor so guessing ill need to make an access hole.
25 model berlingo std car, yes, it sort of lifts in and over sideways with twist, i did it with car on ground and crawled underneath. The other kit has the long bolt, cage specific “nut” and tyre spacers so you do need both.
have a look underneath, at the front of the spare wheel hole there should be two sticky out/down bits (the width of the carrier apart), I **think** that it hooks over one and a loop on the carrier has to be slid sideways over the rhs one. The tyre spacers go on two bolts on the chassis anbove where the spare goes and then you compress the tyre and rack by tightening the long bolt , which also holds the carrier on its mounts.
sorry rhs I think gets hooked thru a loop on car after looking at closeup of carrier
re lwb and the importance of shopping around -seems cheaper here
Thanks.
Just had a look behind the trim in the back where the cig lighter could go but there are no spare wires.
Are there any wires behind the trim? If you can find one that's 12v with the engine running, probably a decent thick one if you will be running a load off it, just splice into that and bolt the earth on the plug to a piece of hidden bodywork.
If you're not confident with that, I'm sure a garage would do it cheap as part of the next service.
The sticky backed foam sound deadening stuff works really well. We basically covered every surface in our Caddy with it before carpeting over it and it makes a huge difference to both sound and temperature.
The wires were all quite thin. I'm happy doing electrical work myself. Just having a hard time locating a suitable feed.
I drove a works belingo for the last 10 months
apple earpods were the best investment
@ the OP?
I take it the Pureshite wetbelt previous car died?
