Just left uni and some half-wit riding a tesco special had locked his bike to the same bar as mine and in doing so had tangled his pedal with my chain and bent it to the point of un-ridable.
I had to vacate the area quickly as i am on day two of stopping smoking and cant really trust that my reactions are proportionate.
The urge to cut his breaks was soooo strong and its a steep hill outside the uni.
i hope i can get away without replacing the cassette

As easily as chains bend, they can be straightened.

Why would the cassette be damaged? Did you ride it far before noticing?
plus, it's only likely to be a few links in the chain that are bent isn't it?

fair enough. Agreed, it's annoying. But should be straightforward to fix.

Why would the cassette be damaged?

It could be worn.

Ah true, i was reading it as having got damaged in the tangle/aftermath. But, like you say above, the OP might well be able to get away without having to buy a new chain in any case.

go to the uni library. Take out a dictionary. Blow the dust off and look up "break" and "brake"

While you're at it, copy the definition of "pedant" for dave360.
