Your lappy wireless thingy will 'search' for the all local networks, be they WiFi, your own, or your neighbours' - just make sure you have the wireless adaptor 'on' (usually a function key or set through 'control panel') and you should be OK........
Just remember that plenty of organisations view unauthorised wifi usage as theft and if you're a regular pincher of your neighbours wifi you might get in trouble. On the other hand there are loads of wifi hotspots (free The Cloud ones if youre on O2) to use.
