Is it as simple as convienience vs a more genuine experience? And if gas, why not just use the girl indoors...

Charcoal definitely better.
Gas really convenient for just doing a few things or avoiding having to stand outside too long in Feb or Nov. And better than the pan indoors because of the dripping fat being able to burn.
3rd BBQ of the week tonight

Definitely gas, but got to be a good one. More controllable, less flaring and you can cook something for 3+ hours without worrying about it going out (provided you've got enough gas that is!).

I was a die hard charcoal fan up till last week.

I went to cook nice steaks from lurch monsters and decided it would be nice to bbq them

Then decided it was a waste of 2.50 of charcoal and also a pain to light it (no chimney)

so the steaks went in a pan,

Im looking at a weber q1200 or possibly a 3200 if i feel like future proofing to slot onto my v8 engine based bbq stand in the corner.

Either gas or a propper charcoal bbq for me . How ever the disposable incinerators - no thanks . By the time thy are ready to cook on they are almost out !

As a die hard Webber and charcoal fan once I made the switch the gas there was no way back. The convenience, the speed, the controllability means for day to day use gas wins hands down. With a gas BBQ you can cook your steak for a midweek dinner without a drawn out project of preparing the bbq, lighting it, letting it settle to the correct temperature then coooking. Cooking on gas bbq is not like cooking in a pan.
