You don't have permission to access "http://www.ebay.co.uk/" on this server

... except if you happen to have your vpn running and be in (at least) Aus or NZ, maybe anywhere but UK

??WTF??

I've cleared cookies and cache to no effect

I've tried accessing ebay via Aus then shutting off the VPN while page still open and no help - as soon as I try a search or follow any link it goes back to error message

Anyone seen this before and fixed it ?

Yeah, try that. Would have though eBay has an HTTP to HTTPS redirect on the site, but...

Thanks.  typing in "https://www.ebay.co.uk" ends up with me being at just "www.ebay.co.uk" and srtill gives the error message 🙁

(as does googling ebay and following that link)

Try it in private browser mode, if it then works, you still have a cookie or a site LocalStorage thingy set somewhere that you've missed.

If you're using Firefox,  Cookie Quick Manager extension will allow you to delete both cookies and LocalStorage

Just to be clear, the VPN was off the entire time while you tried accessing it in private mode?

yeah (if VPN was on, I bet it would've connected - that's the bit I don't get)

Just tied VPN again.  Now browser "can't find" ebay.co.uk

Without VPN  I still get the "no permission" message

Do you have a static public IP address? If not have you tried restarting your router which may/may not prompt a new public IP address. To check this try and go to https://whatismyipaddress.com and note what your IPV4 address is before and after you restart your router…

Do this.

Edgesuite is Akamai, they handle content delivery for large websites. That error is probably because your public IP has previously been used by someone dodgy or you're behind CGNAT (thus have a shared IP) and it's been blocked.  Is it only ebay or are other sites affected (can you get to Apple dot com for instance)?

Hopefully a reboot of the router will give you a different IP.  If not then knowing who your ISP is and what make the router is could help.  (If you have a tech support desk that isn't shit then give them a call.)

Tried rebooting router earlier but hadn't checked IP - thanks

Seems that the IPv4 might be fixed but v6 variable

Nothing else seems to be blocked (apple included)

I've been on to Zen whose bot suggested contacting ebay (was particularly keen on that after I said VPN worked)

ebay are going to get back to me.  If they can't help I'll ask Zen for a new identity 🤫

For all those who've had sleepless nights, wondering how this will end.

Nothing worked and I was about to ask my ISP to change my IP when I tried one last thing (clever people may think this was obvious).

Start VPN (Aus).  Open ebay and then log out.  Stop VPN.  Open ebay (from UK) - access "allowed" and I could log in as normal.

(I had tried logging out and back in whilst in Aus and that made no difference)

Hurrah for computer-magic
