Last nights community solidarity nationwide has warmed my heart, it really has. Yes, there are differences & grievances that won’t be healed by last nights coming together.

But it does show that we, mostly, are still a decent tolerant & understanding people. That is only a tiny, tiny minority who are full of hate & bitterness. Who will smash anything at any given opportunity. Let last nights outstanding actions be a clear indication that they are not wanted, their actions & attempts to divide us will fail.

To those of you who did attend any kind of anti-racism demo last night I thank you dearly for your physical & moral courage.

I will be doing my part for my community this weekend as well.

Serious sense of humour failure alert

It’s not a failure: I just have a functioning two tier sense of humour for wannabe edgelords’ tedious “racy” quips.

William Nelson Morgan, 69, is jailed for 32 months for violent disorder and six months for possessing an offensive weapon after joining the riot in Liverpool on Saturday. The sentences will run concurrently.

He was holding a small truncheon....

Are they sure it was a truncheon and he was just being a w********?

Serious sense of humour failure alert

I think it's more of an 'awareness' and timing issue.

Tone Deaf Oafs* aren't bad people, they just fail to read the room (or forum in this instance). I'm sure there are corners of Twitter/Telegram/FB/DM comments where your brownies 'joke' would have gotten all the likes and up-votes you wanted. TBF at a different time, under different circumstances that post might have landed better on STW, but I don't think most of us are in a receptive mindset right now.

(* To be clear I'm calling you a Tone Deaf Oaf , which is at least better than a Bigot or a Racist, as I don't think that was your intent).

Off the cuff comments are a bit different from things you have to type and have the opportunity to delete/amend.

But I think this all a bit silly.

A daft joke (whatever its motivation) is hardly a pressing matter.

Daft, also, in the sense that The Brownies are still called 'The Brownies'. The Girl Guides seem OK with this - and are generally not known for their militancy. Also not to be confused with the flat cake/cookie thing that is also called a Brownie. And that no one (as far as I am aware) has suggested must be renamed because 'woke'.

Meh.

The poster’s previous on this thread makes me wonder;

Police are fearful of the reaction from muslims, so once again turn a blind eye to their crimes.

Posh kid Noddy's working class pal BigEars was a brownie, some kind of fairy  creature.  The Brownies are named after a type of fairy creature, but not from an Enid Blyton book.

Re Brownies:

"Brownies, originally called Rosebuds,[2] were first organised by Lord Baden-Powell in 1914 to complete the range of age groups for girls in Scouting. They were first run as the youngest group in the Guide Association by Agnes Baden-Powell, Lord Baden-Powell's younger sister. In 1918, his wife, Lady Olave Baden-Powell, took over the responsibility for the Girl Guides and thus for Brownies.

Originally, the girls were called Rosebuds, but were renamed by Lord Baden-Powell after they complained that they did not like their name. Their name comes from the story "The Brownies" by Juliana Horatia Ewing, written in 1870. In the story, two children, Tommy and Betty, learn that children can be helpful brownies instead of being lazy boggarts.

In November 2022, the Girl Guides in Canada announced by January 2023 that they would rename this section of Guides, as it was deemed "a barrier to racialised girls and women" and to be more inclusive.[3] In January 2023, the name Brownies was changed to Embers.[4]"

From Wiki.

I guess the relevance to this thread is to illustrate that meaning always depends on context.  You cannot justify using a word or phrase in a situation in which it is likely to provoke by relying on some cherry picked dictionary definition.  But you should be unafraid of using a potentially provocative word or phrase in a context in which its meaning is clear and not provocative.  You will have to put up with people who disagree with the concept of this post calling you out.  But **** 'em.

Apparently the riots in Boro resulted in damage to 14 police vehicles with estimated cost for repair of over £300k for the vehicles alone. Then there's the staff costs and general repairs and clean up in the area too, both public and private. I'm sure other riot areas suffered much worse damage.

The morons will be complaining that there's no money for services in their area next  :/

Quick sanity check please:

The latest from my GB News colleague is that “apparently mobs of Muslims in parts of London are stopping cars and beating up/jostling* anyone who’s white”
...
I’d like to get all bases covered and facts sorted before challenging.

Your challenge here is simply "no they aren't." Because even if Muslims are doing [insert disc race here], you don't need to be correct in dismissing claims, you just need to counter with at least as much evidence as your colleague has provided which is "none whatsoever."

You could go and research it of course, and almost certainly "win" the argument, but there is no winning to be had with these clownshoes because they'll immediately change the subject and start papping on about boats or hotels or rape gangs or something. It's a waste of time and effort, if you want to point-score then make them do their own bloody legwork.

That turns out to be one of their cousins in a nicked car doing a bit of joyriding. Just to square the circle, so to speak.

I've just read the BBC article from the previous page.

"Mr Jenrick is one of six candidates vying to replace Rishi Sunak as leader of the Conservative Party. He is facing:

Kemi Badenoch
James Cleverly
Priti Patel
Mel Stride
Tom Tugendhat
A winner will be announced on 2 November."

The BBC playing somewhat fast and loose with the definition of "winner" here I fear.

You gotta love the false confidence of Mel Stride. A man who has never had a thought of his own in his political career. A man willing to debase himself day after day being trotted out by Lil Rishi to defend that day's indefensible revelation, balls up etc. I had heard that he was trying to play the 'loyalty and dependability' card - which is all very well until you realise that all he is dependable for is brown-nosing idiots.

As for the rest of that bunch.

Hahaha.

I'd love to see Badenoch or Cleverly against Starmer at PMQs. Patel is vile, but she isn't stupid. She's probably Labour's biggest worry.

In video that has circulated on social media, a man at the rally was filmed apparently saying: “They are disgusting Nazi fascists and we need to cut all their throats and get rid of them all.”

Reform leader Nigel Farage had called on X for Dartford councillor Mr Jones to be arrested.

FFS - this is what Farage is so bloody good at - winding up people & never quite crossing the line

You haven't answered the question though, you're doing the trolly thing of trying to bog people down in twisted definitions when it's clear to anyone with half a brain what the actual meaning is. I like how you've called the EDL neo-nazi white supremacists btw, I didn't actually mention the EDL!

So, to repeat it

Do you think they should treat a Brownies remembrance day parade the same as an neo-nazi white pride parade?

That’s where those with a noble cause need to chill the **** out. They get so convinced that they are on the right side, and their opponents so totally wrong, that they go too far. See also, folk on here calling for violence against various politicians they see as deplorable.

No right thinking person supports these facist whoppers (IMO), but if you start calling for their heads, you’re no better.

I have a bad feeling the labour councillor could be in a lot of trouble here - it was a properly bloody stupid thing to say in public and plays right into Farage's hands.

'Justice' will need to be seen to be done.

You have a bad feeling?

If this was someone from the right saying this you'd be calling for the key to be thrown away.

This isn't just Farage winding people up, it's a clear example of the nasty far left being just as abhorrent and nasty as the far right.

Something that a broad swathe of people have been saying for a long time, but you lot try and deny it

Justice 'seen to be done'? No, justice should be done

It matters not which side of the political divide you’re on, the first rule of life applies.

As should be obvious to all & sundry anyone is capable of breaking that rule!

Fixed that for you.

We need to ditch the labels and call out the individuals instead. Knee jerk partisan thoughts and reactions are what got us here in the first place...

Silly bugger.

Police in London have held a man in his 50s on suspicion of "encouraging murder" after a Labour councillor allegedly called for far-right protesters' throats to be "cut".

> https://news.sky.com/story/labour-councillor-ricky-jones-arrested-after-allegedly-telling-protest-fascists-need-to-have-throats-cut-13193409 < I thought the correct terminology in situations where you want to express your strong disapproval of political opponents was "they should all be lined up against a wall and shot"? Throat cutting sounds crude and unnecessary Edit: Apologies for posting stuff which has already been mentioned but the forum's inability to always take me to the latest page results in being unaware of what has been posted
