We will be in touch
Hi,
I've got a 54 1.9tdi avant and recently when i pull away from stopped, at a steady pace there's a slight judder which i presume is gearbox related, like a slight kangerooing you'd get from letting the clutch out too quick on a manual gearbox.
If i put my foot down and pull away fast it doesn't seem to happen.
Any help or suggestions please as the cars still under warranty.
thanks
Simon
Ps i've posted on a couple of audi forums but have had no responses
Do you know what type of auto transmission it is? Is it a conventional auto, or is it a CVT (continually variable transmission), or a DCT (dual clutch transmission)?
I'm not fully coherant with the exact operation of conventional autos/CVT's during launch, but the torque converter is the launch device on these types of transmissions, and I guess it would be odd getting shudder through a torque converter.
If it is a DCT I would suggest a clutch oil and filter change as your first course of action, as contamination of the clutch valves wouldn't help. Other thing could be a damaged clutch, which I would push to get changed under warranty if I were you as replacement clutches aren't cheap on a DCT.
Other option of course is an engine misfire.
Back when I had a crap car with a conventional automatic gearbox, the traditional advice for any initial problem was to change the Automatic Transmission Fluid. It works a lot of the time and even if it doesn't, it's still a good thing to do and relatively cheap.
But I have no idea whether that would help you here.
Edit: if it does have ATF, how does it smell and what does it look like? New ATF looks like Ribena and smells OK, burned/old ATF looks like chocolate milkshake and smells terrible.
thanks guys, i don't know what type it is, it's also tiptronic if thats helps? I'm playing safe and it's going into audi tomorrow.
