Thinking about editing my helmet cam stuff from morzine but its got horrible brake squeals everywhere. high pitch/frequency (?) stuff everywhere.
Is there a way I can freely silence or quieten it? or am I stuck with it
Will audacity be any good?

yes I know I should mtfu and let go of the brakes more...

OK, Son No1 (who is allegedly quite good at this sort of thing) suggests.

Step 1- (in a video editing app.) separate out the audio.
Step 2- mute the bits you don't like
OR
Step 2 (proper way of doing it) identify the frequency of the brake squeal, then filter out that frequency. How to do this will vary from one app to another.

(Step 3- give No 1 Son a cuff around the head as he walks off muttering teenage noises.)

I hope that this helps.

Overdub it with some really crappy heavy rock/rap track?

You're never going to get rid of it completely by EQing it out. Just cut the audio track out and stick some music over it instead imo.
