What's the best way of doing it? Now it's getting wet I think I need a bit more power than my little pump will give me.

Is this -

The only option without specialist fixings?

What sort of tap? that works on some mixer taps and modern taps, old skool taps need a different sort of attachment

I've not got arround to trying it yet but; if its a mixer then the fitting in the end can be unscrewed in most of them. This can then be replaced with one with a normal hosepipe thread on it like an outdoor tap.

Needs a bit of thinking though as IIRC one of the threads is unusual and more usualy ammerican.

I might have got that last one wrong and confused with ammerican homebrew forums.

If you are going to clean a bike /hose regularly, get an outside tap fitted.

That thing works OK, but when it does come off, the kitchen knows about it...

It's contrary to Water Regulations or Bylaws (depends where you live) unless you have a double check valve fitted

Depends on the tap but these jubilee things work.

I used one of those for years John but could never quite get it to seal properly. I ended up sticking a wee bag over the tap so that and leaks were caught and just dripped back into the sink

Don't think you need worry about this. It applies to incoming main and permanent outside tap installations. Temp hook up to your sink or bathroom taps will be fine.
Anyway, last time I looked, the "Double check valve police" were woefully underfunded.

Get a short piece of copper or plastic pipe about 4 inches long 2 jubilee clips, and some old inner tube, insert copper pipe into end of hose pipe, cut a length of inner tube and fit over hose and and copper pipe, now place copper pipe near to tap and put inner tube oner tap spout, and secure with jubilee clip, to make the job more secure wrap the pipe and inner tube in gaffer tape.
