Hi all prepare for along thread!!

Im after some advice.

in 2007 i used the rated people website to find a company to supply and fit a upvc door to the front of my house.

A company called "windoorcareuk" from birmingham contacted me and quoted £575 for a door fitted.

I must say that at the time i was living in cyprus as i was based there with the air force so all of the contact was done by either phone or email.

anyway my father in law dealt with thewm whilst they did the fitting as he lives down the road from our house.

since fitting they "windoor careuk" have had to come out twice to sort out problems with the door , sealant peeling off , door dropped etc.

Anyway two weeks ago i had a chap come ropund to quote us for double glazing on our house and he asked when the door was fitted.

When i told him just over a year ago he was quite shocked and then proceeded to point out all the problems with it which are as follows....

The frame is loose on the one side(you can actually move it by hand)
The door is not square
The door does not sit flush with the frame so we get lots of drafts
one of the roller locks does not catch so isnt securing the doior properly
all the trim is falling off.
the cill was loose and was only held in by the skirting board on the inside.
there is about an inch or so of sealant underneather the cill between the frame and my house..

any way i phoned the company last monday and was told they woluld phone me back tomorrow(tuesday) to sort out when they would come out.

anyway when they hadnt phoned by thursday i contacted them again , they didnt even apologise for not phoning but said they would be there between 10-11 on friday.

so my wife made sure she was in on friday as i was at work.

by 11.30 they hadnt turned up so i gave them a call.

the chap on the phone said oh were in swindon at the moment and have been held up . i said they really had no intention coming to us on friday and lost my rag a bit !!!

in the end i said unlees you phone me on friday after noon to arrange a time to sort it out i would be calling trading standards.

alas i had no phone call.

So i phoned trading standards and they got me to send them a letter basically saying they have 14 days to contact me to sort the whole mess out.

any way ...i contacted trading standards who were going to contact the company that fitted the door.

this is the reply ive had from ts........

Dear Mr & Mrs Heatherington

I have had a response from Windoor Care UK. A Mr Edmunds has contacted me and stated the door was installed well over 12 months ago, he stated the installation is approaching nearly 2 years. Mr Edmunds stated he is aware you do have a 12 month warranty and he also stated Windoor Care have been out twice to adjust the door. Mr Edmunds stated on the second occasion they adjusted and resealed under the door. He also stated it has been 2 years and now the warranty has run out. Mr Edmunds stated he is happy to rectify but only if there is an extended warranty involved. During our conversation Mr Edmunds also mentioned someone may have tampered with the door.

Would you be able to tell me whether you do have an extended warranty with Windoor Care for this door?

Kind regards

this is the reply im sending to her as im getting quite wound up about it now.....

Dear Sana Arshad

thank you for the reply.

i am absolutely furious with the response you have had from windoorcare.

first of all the door was fitted in December 2007, so how he calculating 2 years is beyond my mathematical knowledge.
When i raised the case with consumer direct in Feb this year , that would make it 1 year and 2 months since fitting.

Mr Edmunds (whoever he is ) is correct that they have been out 2 times to rectify problems one of which was sealing under the door, however its is not this that is the problem.

The problem is that the frame has been incorrectly fitted which in turn is affecting the door.
Also its the sealant and trim around the outside of the door that is coming away.

I fear that (god forbid) my house was broken into and the insurance company checked for the security of my front door then thy would cancel my policy as it is not secure.

As for Mr Edmund saying that someone has tampered with the door then i find this quite slanderous as this is simply untrue.

Would it be possible for you to come and view my property so i can point out all the problems with the front door and you can see for yourself the shoddy work they have done.

As for the extended warranty i was never offered one with them, however we never received a fensa certidficate for the door either.(which apparently is a legal thing now)

what can i expect to happen now as i feel as though im fighting a losing battle.

Someone I know a problem with some carpet fitters a while ago.

To cut a long story short they had a problem with their shop, some rsole apparently filled all the door looks with wood filler .......

I know it's difficult but try to stay calm with trading standards. Our branch are pretty good.

Definitely get them to come have a look, they'll be happy to do this.

I think that you may be able to go down the route of 'not suitable for intended purpose' or something like that but not sure? Trading Standards will be able to tell you.

latest reply from trading standards??

Dear Mr Hetherington

I have read through your email.

Unfortunately with civil complaints, such as these, I do not have the powers to force the trader to offer you a particular remedy. Windoorcare have stated the door may have been tampered with and from my conversation with Windoorcare they did not appear to be willing to offer further rectifications.

In order for me to progress the complaint and provide further assistance, if you feel the faults with the door are inherent, you could consider whether to obtain an independent report on the door. If the report is in your favour I will then be able to go back to Windoorcare since I would have a report, which shows the fault to be inherent. Obviously this is dependent on you and if you wish to obtain a report. We do have a trader register, I have given the link below. It may be worthwhile having a look on the register as someone on there could provide you with an independent report on the door.

http://www.worcestershire.gov.uk/home/wcc-trading-standards-traderregister

I feel at this point without an independent report I cannot go back to the company. I hope the above is of some assistance.

how much does a report cost then roughly
