Or neither, because they are just birds !

I was stood at the kitchen window on the phone and a pretty huge magpie flew straight at me and crashed into the (closed) window.

Which was massively bad luck for him obviously, but what about me ?

One for sorrow <---YOU...Bad luck
Two for joy
Three for a girl
Four for a boy
Five for silver
Six for gold
Seven for a secret never to be told

Always salute the solo Magpie, harbingers of doom.

Don't forget you need to say "Good afternoon Mr Magpie."

Unless it was before midday obviously.

'Aye, aye captain' is also a popular one.

I buried it. Rather than chucking it in the wheelie bin.

Does that count as a sort of metaphorical "salute" maybe ?

salute every solitary magpie and whisper.. where theres a mr theres always a mrs..

the best way to catch magpies is with another magpie they are very territorial and will go beserk if an interloper strolls along..

This one was very easy to catch though 🙂

How come there are so many different "rituals" for magpies then ?

Ladders and other stuff, everyone seems to be doing the same thing. But magpies seem to have different rituals for every person almost.
