We will be in touch
I need to print word and it needs to be 18 cm wide.
Is there a tool that lets me know what size point will give me a word that size?
Can I ditch this point stupidity and go to a far more sensible millimetre font size?
Word processor not really the right tool for the job, if it's just a one-off can you not just set some margins or something 18cm wide and use trial and error?
Size required depends on length of word surely?
You can maybe change the units in the settings somewhere, or get your calculator out, 1mm is roughly 2.83 points.
What are you actually trying to do, make a sign or something?
If the word needs to be 18cm wide, changing from point (which isn't stupidity BTW, it is the universal measurement for type in print) to mm isn't going to help as 'pt' just defines the height of a character so I don't see how it can help you size a word to be 18cm wide.
Why not just use the rulers?
EDIT: Or margins as suggested above. Or draw a box that is 18cm wide and use that as a guide.
Just a label for a box that Mrs Zip wants printed and not hand written for some reason
Just seems really stupid that you can't write a word and then drag it to the size you want.
It's a word processor, not a design package, which is why you can't just resize text.
I'd make a text box 18cm wide, put the text in, and increase the size until it didn't fit.
In all honestly it took you longer to write this post 🙂

Select all the text then click and hold the up (or down) arrow to the right of the text size box and it will increase (or decrease) the selected text in 1pt increments.
Or go to Insert > Text box and create a text box. Then click on 'Arrange' on the right side of the window and halfway down is 'Size' - just make the box 18cm wide then size the text until it fits the box.
There are so many ways of doing this!
That'll do it thanks John doh
I was close to smashing up a Mac with a Mac book then beating that to death with an iPad.
A bad workman blames his tools 😉
