Hello all.
I am using Nutracheck (calorie counter) to help loose weight, it’s working - over a stone lost so far.
But there is an issue:
Use a Garmin to record rides and sync to Strava. No issues.
This links with my Apple Watch and health on my I phone to record calories burned.
All this works fine.
But when it sends over the calories to Nutracheck it only records what appears to be the calories apple is saying I have burned as steps.
Example:
Today road 22 miles on my road bike, 1459 calories according to Strava and my watch.
Nutracheck says I have burned 842.
Somewhere in Health I can find this amount of calories recorded from steps and it appears this is the only info it is sending to Nutracheck.
From a bit of Googling it would appear this is a problem with other apps such as myfitnesspal.
Obviously I should just chill out as it is all working and I am loosing weight, but it just is annoying me!!
I have been in touch with the developers and apple (via apple forums) and all my data permissions appear correct.
Help!!??
I think I’ve come across this before - something to do with health not being able to export data that is ingested from other apps.
How about exporting separately from Strava and health to nutracheck?
I have had exactly the same issue with some of the health apps I use. Also it is known that Garmin logs around double the amount of calories than you have actually burned. I just ignore the calories burned on the app I use now, and only focus on calories consumed. I tend to aim for 1500-1800 for less active days and 1800-2000 for active days. However, I am on a weight loss plan at the moment and will review/increase this when I get down to my target weight.
Ok, so it sounds like it’s a common problem. Will just accept the lower calories.
Even when working the calorie counts are just guesses at best, just using steps (and even HR) it's very hard to estimate real calorie burn.
If it's an Apple watch and you were wearing it during your ride, it should be exporting total movement calories for the day based on heart rate/steps. Garmin/Strava are terrible for over estimating calorie burn without a HR strap attached. For instance - same activity tracked using an Apple watch and a Garmin without HRM. Apple watch says 1270 calories - Garmin ESTIMATES 2200 calories. Next time I ran the Garmin WITH the HRM and the difference was only ~6% and both were close to the Apple watch.
22 miles on my road bike would be around 700-800 calories. but it is weight and effort related with a far greater bias toward the former.
Today road 22 miles on my road bike, 1459 calories according to Strava and my watch
That's a high amount of calories for a ride that is around an hour. As above, 700-800 calories is more in the right ballpark

That depends on a lot of factors. Rider weight and how hard the effort was could see that figure go to over 1000 calories.
