I would instinctively go straight for Elements, but just wanted to know if there were any pressing reasons to go for Aperture before I commit.
Cheers!
Never used Aperture, but Photoshop Elephants is used by just about everyone I've ever met ever.
I expect Aperture is a bit more tightly integrated into OS X, so if you have a Mac that could be a consideration. The main reason I stick with the irritations of iPhoto as opposed to going to Picasa is that it is tightly integrated with the other OS X programs I use.
Have you looked at lightroom 3? Very good bit of kit. Capture One Pro is also good, used by most studios...industry standard and all that. But maybe these are not for you as you would usually use them to process RAW capture files before editing in Photoshop. Depends on what camera you use and how deep you want to go into the murky world of image editing.
I use lightroom...I would heartily recommend it. But it's only really suitable if you're taking RAW images, otherwise it's overkill really.
I haven't used any other products, although I tried out Aperture and Paint Shop Pro before selecting it. If you're just taking jpegs, then choose one of the cheaper options.
The good thing about Lightroom is it uses the same processing algorithms as photoshop, and it has pretty extensive post-processing capability. I only use Photoshop if I need/want to get carried away with post-processing.
Used Aperture and Lightroom. I am a mac man but Aperture felt a bit ameteur whereas lightroom seemed far better and you can do a lot more with it.
Lightroom is the bees knees
Why on earth doesn't someone bring out a photo editing/organising package that does everything that PhotoShop/LR/Aperture/PaintShop contains, rather than having to buy different packages?
I like Aperture, integrtes well on the mac, much better for organising images than elements and also editing is a doddle.
Use aperture 95% and elements 5%
Can do more with elements but often not needed and aperture is just nicer to use
But bear in mind all my opinion is from an average light user, not like some of the very experienced guys on here
