What happens if my MOT and tax expire after an accident and whilst the claims process is ongoing? Are they going to use this to shaft me??
Are you still driving it?
No, i managed to get it home and now im waiting for the insurances garage to come and collect it. Mot runs out on the 21st and tax at the end of the month. Id just got it ready for the MOT and booked it in. Bloody annoying!
Im just concerned that if the MOT runs out whilst the claim process is ongoing that they will turn around and say "well the mot has run out so we arnt going to pay!"
But obviously cant get it Mot'd when i dont have it and its got a bloody great dent in it
Phone them up. Ask them what you should do about the MOT and get them to confirm this won'the used against you when dealing with the claim.
Tax is easy: re-tax it or, if it isn't on public land/the highway, SORN it.
Are they collecting it fur repair or write off?
Write off= their property.
Repair= tax it and you will have to ask them to drop it off at a MOT garage.
When my car was collected,I stopped the road exercise duty tax.
MOT ran out on the wreckage of mine whilst it was waiting to be assessed. It was never mentioned - they seemed more concerned about the missing front to the radio!
If its declared a total loss its still your car though until you accept their payout.
Well they will write it off im sure as its only worth about £1000. May see about buying it back and fixing it but not sure yet
When my brother's car was written off a few years ago, it was only while he was digging out the paperwork for the insurance co. that he realised the MOT had run out a couple of months earlier. He told them, they knocked 10% off the payout. It was no big deal.
People on the internet tend to talk a lot of c**p about "if you do this your insurance will be invalid", just because it gets repeated a lot, and they repeat it and everything on the internet is true. Not because it actually happens.
Doesn't it also matter that you had MOT/Duty tax during the claim event?
Should be ok.
Bought a car back as the repair cost more than the car.
They paid out £1000 - £150 and the car was mine. New bumper and a can of spray (as a student does), car was looking good again. I could only insure it against fire n' theft due to the write off classification.
My car was written off about 6 months back, said it would be £2500. They gave me £1000 and i bought it back for £100. Didnt actually need anything replacing and was fixed for free! Hopefully it will be fixable again though it will definatley need some bits this time!
