...get your arse round to mine and have a look at Planet Earth II in HDR, I'll get the beers in!
Just WOW, it's simply stunning.
Yeah, I know - cool story, but the discs have just arrived and it really is that good, I had to share.
Well we had a choice of 55" HD and 60" HDR, so a tradeoff...
I'm not bothered about watching Plant Earth, but if you're getting the beers in...... ๐
But agreed, 4K is bloody brilliant.

Hang on, is HDR the new acronym for 4k?
I'll give in another 5 years I reckon.
I can't believe anyone would spend 4k on a telly.
I'll wait for Flaperon to buy one, then kindly give me his current TV, then in 5 years when he gets a 16k tele, I'll get a 4k one...
Hang on, is HDR the new acronym for 4k?
No. It's 4K but a bit better.

The difference between 1080p and 4k, is noticeable and a definite improvement, but not huge - HDR is a much more noticeable improvement

What? The Snakes Vs Iguanas is possibly the single greatest wildlife sequence ever filmed!
In HD it's even better
You've got a big telly. Quite exciting.
Isn't HDR the same as in photos then - high dynamic range with daftly overblown colours?
(bit like "wow" mode or whatever on everybody else's telly)
scaredypants - MemberIsn't HDR the same as in photos then - high dynamic range with daftly overblown colours?
That's tone mapping. Fake "hdr" effect. True HDRI is a dynamic range of over and under 8ev I think.
Hang on, is HDR the new acronym for 4k?
No but 4K tellies tend to also be HDR. I think UHD encompasses both?
I think UHD encompasses both?
UHD is simply 4k - Ultra High Definition. HDR is a wider colour gamut and the ability to display ultra bright whites and super deep blacks at the same time. For a TV to reach HDR10 Status as set by the HDR alliance, there has to be a minimum difference between max and min nits. There's a difference between TV's that 'claim' to be HDR and ones that actually meet the required spec - a little bit like your 'HD ready' TV's, that would only display 720. I'll find an article
Is that Star Wars or GOT?the HDR alliance,
Meh, it's only as good as your eyes so I'm out.
Meh
What? The Snakes Vs Iguanas is possibly the single greatest wildlife sequence ever filmed!
Okay, that's pretty damn good!
I was more drawn, though, to the offer of free beer...
display ultra bright whites and super deep blacks
Enough of that racist nonsense. There is no research to support any IQ differences between Europeans and Africans, nor do Africans have any special spiritual insights that are not accessible to Europeans.

Also, this beer, how far away is it? And will there be snacks?
Ooh - Moving pictures!
What? The Snakes Vs Iguanas is possibly the single greatest wildlife sequence ever filmed!
Bet that was even more impressive before somebody dragged it out by putting it into slo-mo.
You've got a big telly.
Now where is the Pissing contest thread...
HD is barely worth it in my house as i only have room for a 32" TV.
If your doing proper pretzels to accompany the beer I'm in.
